The Curl Cove

My project is The Curl Cove. A newly launched company in aspirations of providing clean/organic hair products for curly haired individuals! I'm seeking your help in making my dream a reality. As a Curl Specialist in NYC during the pandemic, I've found myself abruptly laid off. I worked for an industry leader in the curly world that had come under fire the last year or so for their products and the damage it was causing tens of thousands of clients. Prior to being laid off, I made it my mission to know what good clean products these clients could turn to. People found themselves completely and utterly lost after using what they thought was their "Holy Grail" brand from anywhere of months, to decades. I myself completely understood their feeling of confusion and betrayal. Something so simple as shampooing your hair turned into an action of fear. "Is this product going to make my hair fall out too?" 

Days after being laid off, I decided to turn my knowledge into my mission to help curly people feel safe in their product choices again. That's when I launched The Curl Cove. 

With the pandemic still rearing it's head, launching an online company is fairly simple. All of my costs are associated with purchasing, storing, shipping the products, launching the website, and of course- Advertising! In under a month's time I managed to develop my business plan, file my paperwork to be acknowledged as an official company, and started my business accounts. Now all I need is proper funding to contract out the services to build the website and purchase and store the products! This is one of the last- and most important steps- in bringing my company to fruition.  

In my research for grants for businesses like mine, I came across suggestions of crowdfunding and figured, why not give it a try! I'm utilizing crowdfunding because this is an excellent way to have people learn about my company while also exhausting all means necessary before applying for business loans. 

My cost break down amounts to roughly $40,000 for 3 months of start up costs. I am factoring in costs for contracted services such as website design, videographer, and other initial advertising services. My total goal amount is $50,000 for any unexpected and incurred expenses.

With the high rate of return for my sector, the risks are relatively low. Any product sold is an instant double return rate. My company retails clean/ organic products so the likelihood of recoil on our products sold is minimal. We only sell products that are genuinely safe with research and Product Development Specialists insight on what is truly safe for our clients to use. Challenges that may of course be a factor are competitors (although there is no one out there like us yet) and the pandemic interfering with shipments. With The Curl Cove we plan to implement rewards systems, a blog with education, videos, pictures, directions, and other content to encourage clients to purchase with us. In addition, we have quizzes and stylist/consumer perspectives about our products. To eliminate as many shipment problems as possible, we will be directly shipping out the product instead of our vendors.
