Courtside with Rajanae aims to elevate the basketball scene in Honolulu, Hawaii, by providing a vibrant platform for local talent. Through captivating video highlights, we spotlight the skills, dedication, and stories of these athletes. Our unique approach goes beyond the game, capturing their essence through cinematic graphics and effects, offering viewers a deeper glimpse into their personalities, dedication, and off-court impact. We believe in showcasing not just the sport but the spirit and aspirations of these remarkable players."

The Problem

"Facing a stark reality, only 11% of sports media coverage represents Black female athletes, revealing a significant gap in visibility. A staggering 70% of talent in the WNBA receives mere 52 media mentions, whereas their white counterparts receive 118 mentions. This discrepancy, with only 18% of women’s sports receiving coverage, diminishes the recognition and acknowledgment these athletes rightfully deserve. Did i mention only 5% are women in sports media in the NBA. Imagine the percentage of Black women in that 5%.

In this underrepresented space, I aspire to be a beacon of change. As a young Black woman venturing into sports media, I recognize the rarity of such representation. I aim to shatter the norms of a male-dominated industry and champion the narratives of lady athletes and male athletes. My vision extends beyond statistics; residing in Honolulu, where basketball culture is less prominent, I'm driven to showcase the talent here and provide a platform for aspiring athletes to craft their legacies and memories."

My Goals

"Your support from the stands keeps the Courtside with Rajanae (CWR) dream alive and thriving! With your backing, I aim to crowdfund $25,000 to further the CWR journey and bring our shared vision to life.

Here’s how your contributions will be instrumental:

1. Upgrading Equipment: Investment in essential tools like cameras, SD cards, and equipment to enhance content quality and production efficiency.

2. Website Development: The key to support CWR is of course the merch. The vision is to bring to life the different collections with fun, unique, and interactive experiences.

3. Expansion of 'Lights, Camera, Dribble' Collection: A significant part of CWR’s launch, this collection represents the fusion of basketball and style. While some pieces are already crafted, your support will enable the creation and unveiling of additional striking pieces.

These are two seperate pieces. You don't have to wear them together My brother wanted to though lol.

4. Ongoing Clothing Lines & Merch: Funds will contribute to future clothing collections and merchandise, creating unique apparel for fans, players, and basketball enthusiasts.

5. Organizing Sports Events & Fundraising: Planning and executing engaging sports events where athletes and fans can participate, fostering community engagement and aiming to secure scholarships for deserving athletes.

6. Developing a Unique Sports Drink: Crafting a specialized sports drink tailored for athletes, featuring vegan, sugar-free, electrolyte-packed formulas to support their performance.

7. Ambitious Future Projects: Beyond these outlined goals, your support will fuel many more innovative projects and initiatives aimed at diversifying the basketball experience for all.

About The Founder

Hey there! I'm Rajanae Johnson, the creative mind behind Courtside with Rajanae. While my aspirations include music and acting, I started my unexpected journey into sports media that began with a surprising twist.

In the spring of 2017, I attend El Paso Community College where I obtained my degree in Communications Radio and Television/Cinematic Broadcasting. It was here where I would learn how the industry worked and be able to tap into my creative side to construct projects and explore other avenues that the business has to offer. I never fancied sports or actively participated in them. However, my younger brother took an interest to basketball at the tender age of 5. He was shy, but showed courage. A friend of my step-father made the suggestion for him to join a team to help him overcome his shyness but most importantly team-work and discipline. As a way for my stepfather to capture and analyze my brothers performance, I would begin recording his practice sessions and games. But soon, my simple recordings would evolve into cinematic showcases, blending music, effects, and graphics, giving the games a vibrant, music video-like feel.

In late July 2023 after returning home from the Las Vegas Jam On It tournament, the business idea to start Courtside With Rajanae came into play. Parents of the team caught wind of the video footage of my brother and inquired about my video services. Suddenly, I found myself unintentionally venturing into the world of sports media. I embraced the unexpected and dived into transforming my passion into a business venture. While I had another venture in mind, Courtside with Rajanae stole the spotlight—sometimes, life has its own plans! And hey, my other business is still in the works, keep an eye out for that too! "
