Build Your Own Crown: Protective Styles Reimagined

     Our Mission is to empower those with uniquely textured hair by providing quality and sustainable accessories to simplify curly routines. We want our customers to take control of their natural hair journey and to celebrate how their hair contributes to who they are. 

There are many disparities surrounding natural hair in the beauty community. For instance, natural hair isn't included in the curriculum for cosmetology professionals. This has led to a negative salon and protective styling experience for many. We are encouraging those with curly hair to be more self-sufficient and to reduce salon dependency by providing quality accessories tailored to their hair type. 

While roughly 11% of the global population has curly hair, the natural hair industry is estimated to be over 8 billion dollars. The projections for growth are on the rise as data has shown a substantial decrease in the sales of hair relaxers. 

As more people are embarking on their natural hair journey, headwraps have proven to be an alternative to protective styling for many. Unlike other protective styles, headwraps can be removed daily to provide moisture and care to your strands. They are also less time-consuming and less expensive compared to other styling options.  Unfortunately, many are lacking the skillset needed to tie headwraps in a way that is secure and presentable. Another huge issue with traditional headwraps is that they are made with cotton and other harmful fabrics. For curlier hair, these fabrics can lead to moisture loss and breakage over time.  As a company, we have set out to reimagine the idea of protective styling and improve on the long-standing tradition of hair wrapping. We offer Pre-Tied accessories that are perfect for both beginners and experts.  In addition, all our wraps are made with our signature soft and stretchy fabric. With proper hair care, our wraps can be worn day after day without causing friction or damage. The lifespan of our products exceeds that of most mass-produced accessories as well. Our items can easily last 4+ years with proper care. 

We are seeking funding to become more accessible through retail expansion. We want to provide an alternative to beauty supply products for the natural hair community. With your support, we intend to rebrand and increase our marketing efforts via social media, community outreach, and other platforms. In addition, we will begin working with our manufacturer to streamline our production process.  This will help us to increase inventory to meet the demands of retail stores.  Outside of our manufacturer and the occasional help from family, Build Your Own Crown is a team of 1 (Maybe 1 1/2 on a good day). Having funding to bring in other consultants and experts would allow us to smoothly transition from a vendor-based business to a retail enterprise.
