Project Description
At The Bluebird Boutique our goal is to inspire our customers to have fun with fashion and create their own unique style.
I love supporting small businesses whenever and however I can. Among my most frequently purchased items is clothing. In my younger years I frequented local boutiques excited for the treasures I'd find and they always had my perfect size in stock. Fast forward 10+ years and two babies, my personal size ranges from a 10-12, sometimes 14 depending on the brand; all sizes local boutiques do not carry.
In an article published by BYRDIE, an online source for all things beauty, they featured an article in Februray 2020 in which they referenced a study conducted by International Journal of Fashion Design, Technology, and Education. The study found the average size of an american woman is between a 14 and 18; yet these 'average sizes' are not availabe in boutique locations.
You may ask, "Why not check out a Plus Boutique?" Well, according to PLUS magazine, "In the fashion industry, plus size is considered size 18 and over" So, with most boutiques offering up to a size 8 (occasionally a 10) and plus size boutiques beginning at size 18, those who fall 'in-between' are left no where to go but big box stores.
It is my intention to establish a boutique where women, sizes 0-16 have a one stop shop for unique fashion options online. My two-year goal to establish a brick and mortar location offering the extended sizing options that will be available on my online boutique.
I am seeking funding to continue all of the necessary activity to set up my business included but not limited to securing an office space for storage and shipping; completeing the website design and set up; securing inventory from small business partners/makers to bring uniquely crafted, even one of a kind apparel and accessories to customers.
After being a stay at home mom to my two beautiful children these past 5 years, I've experienced first hand the disparity in clothing options available outside of big box stores; which is why this project is so near and dear to me. My team currently consists of myself and will ideally include one part time/seasonal assistant to aid in packing/shipping/daily operations 6 months to 1 year after the launch of my site.
I can not impress enough how much I truely appreciate this platform. The kindness and generosity this community has shown me since joining has been truely life changing. I am excited to begin this project and be able to contribute back to this incredible community!
