The Beet Box Juicery Storefront

The Beet Box Juicery is a cold-pressed juice company founded in March 2019 after founder, Alon Otis, noticed health disparities based on race and class that leave millions of African Americans without afforable and nutritious foods in their neighborhoods.

Fast food corporations invest millions of dollars advertising to black youth ensuring addicted to and dependent upon their carcinogenic meals for sustenance. Over 12 million low-income Americans live in neighborhoods without a grocery store within ten miles. These food deserts create barriers for these individuals to access affordable, healthy food options. This, in turn, leaves black and brown people more vulnerable to diseases than their white counterparts. Black people are at least three times more likely to get cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes than white people in all age groups. Poor people restricted to these harmful foods will, in the long term, have to deal with chronic illness becoming dependent on pharmaceutical drugs to even so much as breath. With the continuously rising costs of pharmaceutical drugs, these families will ensue yet another financial burden.

The Beet Box wants to end this cycle by introducing new habits that can be passed down for generations to end premature death and disease. Our approach is unique in that it is explicitly catered to a group of people who are usually forgotten. Our juice blends were specifically made for the communities we want to protect. We conducted research to find out which diseases affected African Americans the most, then combined the most powerful natural ingredients to prevent or fight these chronic diseases and build our customers’ immune systems. We made our prices affordable and plan to lower prices as the company grows. We will meet our customers where they are by continuing to partner with local retail locations and opening a storefront in close proximity to our target consumers' homes. We hope to aid in the development of a better, brighter, and stronger community.

Prior to starting The Beet Box, founder, Alon had nearly five years of experience working with other juice bars. She has combined her experience gained from these work experiences with knowlegde gained from her own personal quest to create powerful yet tasty recipes.
