Project Description
Our mission is not simply staffing coffee shops, hotels, schools and restaurants with quality Baristas but using our platform to train and develop individuals re-entering the workforce and youth just starting out, to learn a new trade and to become self-sufficient.
The problem we're solving is two fold, we are helping employers hire quality applicants and making a positive impact in underserved communities by addressing joblessness, crime, inequality in hiring and education.
BaristaSource addresses the critical staffing needs of the specialty coffee industry, which continues to be plagued with lack of training, lack of quality candidates and more importantly no clear pathway to come in the door certified and ready to work.
We're seeking outside funding and mentorship to help bring this dream to fruition. We were unable to secure funding through traditional methods so we have bootstrapped the company thus far but we understand the work we're trying to do requires a bigger financial commitment. We will use your donations to assist in funding the much needed initial Training Center, which will be the blueprint for future centers around the country.
We are located in Atlanta, Georgia, where our Flagship Training Center will be built. Our small team is comprised of 6 Certified Master Baristas, our CEO and CTO. Please see our video to learn more about our CEO and Founder Kelley Smith!

Frequently Asked Questions:
1.Do we really need a Barista Training Center? Yes! Specialty coffee shops from Giants like Starbucks Coffee to small independents have struggled for years with hiring and staffing needs, mainly because there's no current pipeline for these businesses to get good talent. All Baristas currently learn through hands on training, which can take anywhere from 3-9 months to become even remotely independent. Coffee shops NEED Baristas already trained when they're hired, similar to restaurants who need cooks.
2. Is BaristaSource LLC open to other types of funding or assistance? Yes! Donations of all kinds (equipment, classroom supplies, classroom furniture, mentorship, etc).
3. Has your "need" been proven in market yet? Yes! Prior to the current COVID-19 pandemic we had staffing contracts with various hotels, training contracts with various big box retailers who hold specialty coffee licensing agreements. We also were in talks with some of the chain coffee giants interested in our Training Center plans and potential hiring partnerships for our graduates.
4. Are you for-profit or non-profit? We are a for-profit company with a clear understanding of how our business model combined with a laser focus on corporate social responsibility, can positively impact the communities we serve.
