About the Entrepreneur
My name is Astrid Mota, I’m French and have lived extensively in North and South America. I run an online business that specializes in fair-trade jewelry and fashion accessories.
As a single mother of two and a journalist by profession, it has been my passion for helping the soft spoken and the undervalued artisans of the world. I believe it’s my duty to empower them by giving them a spotlight, making a real difference for these women-artists.
We sell handcrafted bags by two different indigenous tribes I have befriended during my time in Colombia, the Wayuu and the Aruaca peoples. Our hand-forged jewelry is made with gems, healing stones and sterling silver from the heart of Mexico. They are cultural items that many women will enjoy wearing!
Mission & Vision
For too long and across Latin American societies, social inequalities breed working women that have been disenfranchised and under-appreciated for their handmade works of art. We believe the best way to preserve their culture and way of life from modernizing tendencies is to curate their art and fashion for the time and work they invest in producing these unique pieces of art.
We believe that a living wage is just the first step in community development. Our technical preparation is designed to foster a self-sustaining entrepreneurial community; disrupting the way the market has been operating for the last 15 years.
And this is why I’ve come to ifundwomen, where we can reach women contributors sympathetic to our cause!
Your Funding will Help us
On the one hand, I will have to fly and set up operations in Colombia and
Mexico. On the other hand, I need to meet with clients themselves in expos, museums and artisan fairs in Europe and the United States to get our name out there.
By achieving this goal, we can easily better the lives of those less fortunate. Please support our mission and help!

Wayuu bags are made of cotton and colorfully tinted with mixtures derived from locally grown plants in the area as they have been doing for centuries. The process is 100% eco-friendly generating zero-net waste and completely sustainable.
Aruaca bags are made from the wool of sheep they shepherd and care to daily. Their appealing designs are in fact thoughts and myths they articulate through the weaving process, making each bag authentically unique!
