The mission of Dogwood Event Design is to create fun, interactive, learning experiences for kids and their parents. We specialize in oversized, bright, STEM-style activities and build these into an outdoor event. Our flagship show is Tea with Alice, which follows the story of Alice in Wonderland. We held our first show in NY and welcomed almost 4,000 guests.
Every item in our show begins with a carpentry frame and is then built out using set design foam products. We also use a variety of protective products to make these weather - and kid - proof. We carve, sculpt and paint every single item ourselves.
The show is set to travel to Fairfax County, VA in early spring of 2019. We are seeking funding to repair and enhance the current show.
As a mom of 3 kids that know how to play (and play hard!) I am frequently disappointed by the lack of interactive events for youngsters AND the struggle that many kids 12 and under encounter due to an over-scheduled and over-digitalized lifestyle. Creative, unstructured play is an essential part of our brains development and we are robbing our youngest generation of this. I am an experienced event producer and production manager and it is obvious to me that this is a completely untapped market.
Our shows are designed with 2 main goals: 1. get these kids moving and encourage them to be creative and silly and 2. get the parents and grandparents playing WITH them. The secondary perks of what we do are that kids find themselves playing with new friends, working together to solve problems, make up story lines, etc. and our guests get exposed to a classic piece of literature.
Dogwood Event Design is made up of me (owner), my husband Noah (carpenter), and two extremely talented artists. Our kids are typically in the shop anytime they aren't in school and they serve as our test market (and they do not shy away from criticism!). We hope to add another carpenter down the line to help Noah with the building components.
We are incredibly grateful for any and all support. We have invested almost $100,000 of our own money in this company and know that with a little more content, this show will be ready for its debut in Fairfax County!
