Academics Academy Inc. is raising funds to launch a workforce development program for adults with intellectual disabilities in Sacramento and surrounding areas. Academics Academy Inc. provides Social-Emotional Intelligence, Computer Literacy, and critical Workforce Development skills to adults with disabilities and individuals in underserved communities. Academics Academy Inc. offers seven year-round community-based programs: Social Emotional Learning Skills, Social Skills for the Workplace; Digital Literacy Global Standard 5; Basic Keyboarding; Financial Literacy; and Certified Microsoft Office Specialist. We are dedicated to preparing individuals with skills that will change the trajectory of their lives. We hope to positively impact how people make decisions.

Who We Serve

Academics Academy Inc. targets adults with intellectual disabilities, the underprivileged, under-educated, and under-employed adults in our communities who desire to gain employment skills and training. Low-income high school graduates who plan to enter the workforce immediately will benefit from our program. Joining the workforce with Social-Emotional Intelligence, and a certifiable aptitude will enhance their ability to gain employment, improve their confidence in today's competitive job market, and result in higher earning potential. Our work in the community has led us to see the despair of underserved communities. 

The Problem

Here's the problem: the underserved are also under-employed. Adults with disabilities have limited programs that provide workforce skills to live independently. With the lack of these services, most individuals have limited opportunities to feed their families. This often causes a generation of people to live in poverty. The jobless rate for those with a disability was about twice as high as the rate for those without a disability. This is according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2021, only 4.4% of disabled persons were employed in healthcare partitioners and technical occupations. 

Our Solution

Our programs address clients' self-awareness and self-management skills to become employed, healthy, and productive; while successfully interacting with family, friends, and professionals. The curriculum aims to bridge the gap between high-skilled employment and adults with intellectual disabilities. Social Emotional Intelligence cohorts help clients understand and process emotions, handle anxiety and stress, and build strong relationships with others. Clients first explore their values, feelings, and attitudes and then work to understand others' expressions. Students discover the paradox of emotions and emerge confident, motivated, and prepared for the ups and downs of life and a professional career. These skills will benefit their professional and personal lives. Improving social skills through active listening, understanding body language, and being more empathetic will give clients an advantage in their interactions. Equipping clients with a work-ready curriculum prepares them for many jobs requiring basic digital skills. Academics Academy focuses on the most critical elements of technology today. Academics Academy Inc. is hyper-focused and bridges the gap between adults with intellectual disabilities and the digital workforce. AAI also offers a Financial Literacy curriculum to help clients understand and manage money. This gives our clients a complete perspective on becoming a professional and the skills needed to work. This will expand inclusive employment opportunities for developmental disabilities.

Academics Academy Inc. position itself as the leading job training program in the Sacramento Metropolitan area by offering professional certifications and ACE CREDIT. This service enables adult learners to present a nationally recognized transcript to the college or university of their choice for the potential award of academic credit. Our emphasis is on certifying 100 % of our clients and assisting them in obtaining stable employment

The Asks

Academics Academy Inc. is asking for your help to reach our goals. Our main barrier is funding. We have had to make some tough decisions and sacrifices to start our program, but we still need more funds. Our staff is working hard to give the underserved a chance at a brighter future, but we need your help to make this happen. Please consider donating at some level to help the underserve individuals we serve a chance at a better future. We believe that our program will work and that we are making a difference in the lives of our students. They come from all different backgrounds and range from age 18 to 65. Some of them are homeless, some of them have intellectual disabilities, some have had trouble with the law, and others come from families that just can’t afford to send them to college. But they all have one thing in common, they want to change their lives. They want the chance to make something of themselves and we are giving it to them. Our program is based on self-motivation, responsibility, and accountability. We have found that when individuals are given these tools they can be successful in any field of study. But we ask that you help give them that chance.
