VAER Upcycled Footwear
Turning old textiles into new funky sneakers
Project Description
VAER (formerly Wair) is a textile upcycling start-up and our first product is upcycled sneakers made from discarded jeans and workwear. One of the major problems in the textile industry is that there is no scalable solution for reusing the imperfect textiles. This means that e.g. jeans with just a small hole or stain often end up being either landfilled or incinerated. Our idea is to make textile upcycling scalable, so that we can give new life to the imperfect textiles and at the same time retain the inherent value and story of the textiles. Our primary product is shoes made from discarded jeans and workwear. We sell them B2C and have also had great success with B2B sales in 2023. We have big ambitions - and shoes are only our first step in the journey towards a more circular fashion industry. We have recently started a project where we will make an input material so that other fashion companies can also make upcycled fashion and we in that way can save even more discarded textiles together.
