Taking Root with Nekid Nursery

At a time when our voice has seemingly fallen flat and our breath feels labored and worn out, we continue tirelessly to push forward in our everyday lives, being what everyone needs us to be or doing all that must be done. Yet, we often don't acknowledge our personal need to show up for ourselves as we do for other people. We constantly take the last of our water to pour into other people's saturated wells. Leaving ourselves neglected and burnt out. 

I was burnt out. In 2021, I was a cluster of confusion running on fumes, trying to be what everyone needed me to be. Discontent with the expectations others had

 for my life and coming off of an injury, I was depleted in every sense of the word. However, I had limited awareness that I needed to be still. 

To be quiet, in the quiet, and stationary. In this stillness, I was able to reflect on how I had gotten to this point and what I needed to move forward. I felt stifled and trapped in a box of expectations that didn't belong to me. I was yearning for exploration, creativity, and joy. In search of this, Nekid Nursery was born. 

Nekid Nursery is a sweet culmination of my eagerness for personal growth, my love of plants, and my innate nature of being an auntie, sister, and friend who has a remedy for everything. I was able to take my love of home remedies and cultivate a unique space for the community to grow and be nourished from the inside out, making this space expansive and ever-evolving. 

Nekid Nursery is an intimate apothecary and homestead that serves as a refuge and oasis for individuals seeking to engage with themselves intimately while participating in holistic and medicinal care. We strive to elevate personal development, health, and education among people—curating a unique space for internal reflection while providing an amazing set of tools and products to enhance the journey of refinement one may desire. We understand that the success of any person or community is based on the care of oneself and the community as a whole. We must create a space within ourselves that is nurtured, protected, and well-watered to ensure we can nurture and water the people and experiences we choose to navigate. 

At Nekid Nursery, we are more than just an apothecary and homestead; we are a heart-driven haven where the principles of community, education, and holistic wellness converge. Our mission is to cultivate a nurturing space where individuals can discover the essence of being well and thrive in harmony with nature and their surroundings.

As a business, we operate as a front-of-house apothecary and back-of-house homestead. Our process begins with growing our ingredients sustainably on our homestead, ensuring location, suitable practice, and availability of particular ingredients in our products. We grow most of our ingredients when possible, yet we partner with a community of plant growers and farmers who align with our practice and intention. Through our homestead, we offer medicinal products, fresh vegetables, herbs, house plants, and seeds. Our apothecary provides a physical space to retail our products while providing workshops, classes, and access to available refreshments from other community partners. We are ensuring an intimate and guided experience from homestead to home. Our vision is to provide space and the resources of a community, medicinal tools, and care items. As we grow, we hope to share in discovering and cultivating new products, events, and, most importantly, our love of nature.

We are looking to bring our homestead up to date and invest in the function of our operations on the land. Please see below to get a better idea of what I need to make this possible.

We are seeking $10,000 in funding to expand the Nekid Nursery homestead. Expanding the homestead entails the construction of a greenhouse and obtaining the necessary operational tools, soil, and seeds. The greenhouse, in particular, will serve as an operational quarter for the business to prep, grow, and package all necessary items produced on the homestead. It allows us a clean and operational space that can be used year-round.
