WITTED ROOTS HOLDS SPACE FOR MILLENNIAL WOMEN OF COLOR TO DISCOVER THE TOOLS NECESSARY TO THOUGHTFULLY ADDRESS AND INTENTIONALLY APPROACH THEIR MENTAL HEALTH + EMOTIONAL WELLNESS.

Millennial women of color have been largely underrepresented and left out of the global health and wellness industry worth $4.5 trillion+. 

Of the mainstream platforms available within the industry, women of color are largely underrepresented, whether as members or as experts.  

Millennial women of color need access to platforms that allow them to be heard, listen, be vulnerable, recharge, learn, find clarity, and gather as a community (both virtually + IRL).

THE COMMUNITY

RESET is an intentionally-designed private, exclusive membership community where millennial women of color feel empowered to be their most vulnerable. 

It’s a place where they can come to share their experiences, their struggles, their confusions, and misunderstandings, all in a safe, non-judgemental space, away from the piercing eyes of public social media platforms.

It’s a place where they can participate in actionable programming led by experts in mental health + emotional wellness. This expert-led calendar of programming will include a wide variety of topics including (but not limited to) coping, stress management, anxiety management, and self-reflection.

Enrollment will only open for a limited time at key points throughout the year, ensuring that the community grows at an organic pace and allows space for all members to feel truly welcomed.

We are so passionate about making this much-needed space accessible to as many people as possible, that we are incorporating a 10-for-1 scholarship program. For every 10 annual memberships, we’ll fund one annual membership for millennial women of color who meet specific socioeconomic needs.

THE LIVE SESSIONS

While members of our private membership community will have access to regularly-scheduled Live Sessions and other wellness programming, we are also offering non-members the opportunity to access these expert-led sessions through ticket availability.

THE DIGITAL MAGAZINE

Our digital magazine at WittedRoots.com is where we provide a space for vulnerable personal reflections, as well as relevant evidence-backed articles, focused on every aspect of mental health, emotional wellness, and holistic wellbeing. 

We are determined to level up our editorial integrity to create and curate the most up-to-date, easily-digestible informational content.

THE PRODUCTION

ROOTED: The Docu-Series is our flagship production where we highlight the often-vulnerable mental health + emotional wellness experiences of millennial women of color. The main aim of this production is to create a platform for millennial women of color to tell their stories, particularly the stories that are not often told (and usually not by us!). 

ROOTED is about sharing stories, but it's very much more than that. It's also about allowing other millennial women of color to see themselves represented in spaces where their most vulnerable experiences are welcomed, celebrated, and captured through a non-judgmental, empathetic lens.

With this production we want to encourage relatability + shatter stigmas, encouraging millennial women of color to become the torch-bearers for their own mental health + emotional wellness.

HOW WILL WE SPEND THIS MONEY?

For over 5 years we’ve been challenged, yet privileged to build Witted Roots with very little resources in support. This has taught us so much about all aspects of business, including pivoting and course-correcting at many key points, bringing us to where we are now. 

We’ve been listening keenly to our audience and continue to develop a greater understanding of what they truly need. Especially during this time of great global upheaval, comes a greater need to invest in ways that we haven't been able to before. 

Here’s where your contribution will make a huge difference:

• $30,000 will support the growth of our small, but mighty team to support our mission, with a focus on intentional engagement, and community-building. This will also support the production of Season II of the docu-series in Spring 2023.

• $15,000 will help to compensate the amazing contributors + experts who do so much great work using their time + energy to serve as a resource for our audience through Live Sessions and our digital magazine.

• $5,000 will cover our operating & administrative expenses for a period of time, ensuring that our backend is secure + well cared for so our focus is on being impactful.

MEET OUR FOUNDER

Hi there! 

My name is Shanice J. Douglas-Samuels, and I’m proud to be the Founder + CEO of Witted Roots. I’ve earned a Bachelor’s in Psychology + Women’s & Gender Studies, as well as a Master’s in Psychology, Health, & Behavior, so my journey into “figuring out the mind” started a very long time ago. 

What I lean on heavily, and what quite literally keeps me up at night is my passion for creating safe spaces for underserved + underrepresented communities to just BE.

I exist at the intersection of passion + purpose to uplift, support, and advocate for millennial women of color to truly take this place in the world that already belongs to them.
