Project Description
UPDATE: Sometimes we have amazing sponsors & supporters that give outside the IFW platform, including our Gold Sponsor Jennifer Bridgeford from Country Financial and our Silver Sponsor Dan & Megan from Crane's Castle Brewery. As of April 2nd we have successfully raised over $9,000 towards our crowdfunding goal, but we don't want to stop there because every dollar we raise with the community is another dollar we do not have to borrow.
Did you know we have 3 projects we are working on? Project 1 we have successfully completed: we have acquired a liquor license. Project 2 is our snack bar expansion. Project 3 is the most exciting project and we cannot wait to share it with you. Help us get to $10,000 and we will spill the beans!
In October 2015 we, the Koh family, purchased a small indoor play center in Bremerton called Play Kitsap. A year later, we closed Play Kitsap, completely remodeled the place and built a 3 story jungle gym, and re-opened as Ahoy Kitsap Playland to the delight of children throughout the region. From 2016 to 2019, Ahoy Kitsap Playland was voted a top 5 destination for rainy day escapes and birthday parties in the Seattle region by ParentMap's Golden Teddy Awards.
Since 2016, Ahoy Kitsap Playland has been welcoming families from all over the Puget Sound region and has hosted hundreds of birthday party celebrations. Offering a safe and clean environment, Ahoy Kitsap Playland has become a community center for families to safely socialize with friends and play together, rain or shine.
Then the Pandemic came.
On March 16, 2020 Governor Inslee ordered many businesses to close in Washington State to slow the spread of COVID-19 and Ahoy Kitsap Playland, a center for family recreation in Kitsap County since 2016, complied. A year later, Ahoy Kitsap Playland continues to struggle under COVID-19 restrictions. It is clear to us that Ahoy Kitsap Playland's long term success in our community requires that we re-evaluate how we do business for a post-pandemic world. One option is to simply raise our admission prices to help dig us out of the hole the pandemic has put us in. And while we have temporarily raised prices during the pandemic, we would prefer to go back to a simple admission model after all pandemic business restrictions have been lifted. Another option, a better option we believe, is to expand our snack bar offerings and start limiting what outside foods may be brought in.
Expanding the Snack Bar
Many of you have asked for it, and we have long pined for it: hot food service. Up until now, we have only offered prepackaged snacks and beverages and the reason why may surprise you – the current snack bar has no water source. Serving hot foods, even simple ones, requires a handwashing sink within 20 feet of where food is being prepared. This automatically disqualifies the current snack bar for any kind of food preparation. But YOU can help us change that!
The Menu: We are looking to add a very simple menu: hotdogs, nachos, pretzels, mini-donuts, pastries and best of all, fresh ice cream by the cone.
The Investment: In order to serve any kind of menu, we have to build a small commercial kitchen which will require an investment of at least $50,000. The expenses can be broken down into the following:
- Design Plans & Permits: $6,000
- Equipment: $10,000
- Plumbing work: $5,000
- Electrical work: $2,000
- Labor & Materials: $27,000
Fundraising Goal: $10,000
Look, we would just love to raise all $50,000 from the community and forego another bank loan to make this dream happen. But we’re gonna keep it real and set our goal for 20%, which is how much we need to have available to get a loan. When we surpass that goal, then we will tell you about the other exciting plans we have up our sleeve. Because we got plans and they are very exciting!
If this all sounds cools and exciting, we have three things we would like you to do:
1. Scroll back to the top of the page and click on "Fund It". We are releasing a new collection of t-shirts and hoodies featuring an Ahoy Kitsap Playland treasure map. We also have bigger rewards available, including discounted yearly memberships and surprise treasure packs. We expect most rewards to be available by late May or early June for pickup, but if you would like us to ship you your reward then let us know in the "Message to the Entrepreneur" section and leave your shipping address. We will calculate the shipping for your rewards and charge you separately when the items become available.
2. Share our campaign will your friends and family. Even better than a post share is a personal message to a friend or family member that says something like, "Hey, this is an amazing business in Kitsap that we support and we think you should too. I especially think item _______ would make a great gift for (your grandson)"
3. Do you know a local business owner that has done particularly well during the pandemic? Send them the campaign link and suggest they hold a customer appreciation party this year at Ahoy Kitsap Playland. This is one of our top tier rewards that will help us surpass our fundraising goal in no time.

When will you announce your new upcoming feature?
We will announce our new feature when we hit our $10,000 goal or when the campaign ends, whichever comes first.
What is included in the surprise packs?
Each surprise pack or treasure box will include a collection of limited edition items from Ahoy Kitsap Playland, mixed with admission tickets, other on-site benefits, an annual membership or party package and/or may include first access to new features.
How do I tell you my t-shirt/hoodie size?
Please put your size in the "Message to the Entrepreneur" to request their t-shirt/hoodie size. For adults we have sizes XS - XXL and for children sizes we have youth XS - XL.

What will you do if you raise more than $10,000?
Every dollar we raise above our goal is another dollar we do not have to borrow to make these changes. Community support today will keep Ahoy Kitsap Playland in a good position to be in our community for many years to come.
Will we still be able to bring outside food in after you build a new snack bar?
Probably, but with more limitations along the lines of "if you can buy it, don't bring it." We have to decide whether or not going forward it is best to raise admission prices or to prohibit most outside foods to encourage snack bar sales. We think most people would prefer to pay lower admissions and then voluntarily spend at the snack bar if they want to as opposed to paying a higher admission so they can bring in their turkey sandwich.
I want to purchase more than one tier. Can I do that?
Yes! You are able to select and add more than one tier to your cart at a time.
I want a certain tier, but I'd like to contribute more than the tier price. What do I do?
Select the tier you would like to purchase, and then also be sure to select the Monetary Option tier and fill in the additional amount you would like to contribute.
I just want to contribute, and not purchase a tier. What do I do?
The first tier listed is Monetary Option. Select this tier, type in the amount you'd like to contribute, and that amount will be added to the raise!
