Project Description
Black women have unique needs regarding their hair but experience information overload when it comes to getting hair advice.
They don’t have a central destination to get the hair information and guidance they need.
As a result:
- They spend hours on YouTube and TikTok searching for answers to pressing hair problems
- There’s no way to verify the credibility of the content that is consumed
- The information that is shared is often high level or not specific enough to address their specific pain points
- There is not an easy way to find experienced and qualified hairstylists in their local communities
VoiceOfHair is revolutionizing this problem by creating an all-in-1 digital solution called VoiceOfHair Link that offers:
1. A centralized resource center for answers to common hair questions, from vetted haircare and medical experts
2. Ability to directly book a virtual consultation with a licensed cosmetologist, dermatologist, or trichologist for answers to specific hair questions
3. Access to 90-Day Hair Health Accelerator to achieve your hair goals
4. Access to training and products for hairstylists to learn the necessary skills to grow their brand and book more clients
Voice of Hair is serving the 21 million Black women in the United States who spend $1.6B on haircare and are passionate about improving their hair education and hair growth journey.
My passion for hair was amplified when I had to learn to style my own hair, after living in 8 states and abroad over a 10-year period. In each new city, I struggled to find trusted hairstylists to care for my fragile, natural hair. Shortly after my last move, I had a major health scare when I was diagnosed with a brain tumor that caused my hormones to be imbalanced and made my hair fall out.
While seeking hair growth solutions for myself I created the VoiceOfHair platform where I highlighted talented hairstylists, tutorials, and haircare tips for Black women. Within one year we grew from 0 to 100K followers and this summer we hit 1 million followers on Instagram!
Since growing our online presence and product portfolio, I have received countless questions from members of our community that need advice about their hair issues or are seeking professionals to style their hair. In addition, almost every day my direct messages are flooded with hairstylists who are looking to grow their brand and increase their clientele. VoiceOfHair Link can help bridge these communities together and solve the hair needs of Black women around the country.
Prior to starting VoiceOfHair, I earned my BSE in Industrial Engineering from the University of Michigan. I went on to earn my MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. I had the opportunity to work for Fortune 500 companies such as GE Healthcare, P&G, and ConAgra Foods in project management and brand management roles. For the last eight years, I have leveraged my corporate experience to build strategic partnerships for all of my stakeholders.
Being an entrepreneur is tough. Twenty percent of small businesses fail within their first year. The odds are even more challenging for Black entrepreneurs. Eighty percent of Black-owned small businesses fail within their first 18 months.

- All rewards will be delivered before 12/31/2022. However, we will do everything in our power to deliver your rewards by the end of the campaign. Please keep in mind that rewards that contain t-shirts may take up to 4 weeks for production and delivery but will be delivered before 12/31/2022
