Uyoyaa: Strengthening and Expanding our Foundation

Uyoyaa provides cultural preservation through mindful tools and educational opportunities to grow our community mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Our mission is to educate, enhance and elevate and we do so by providing a space that growth can take place and wellness can help elevate women of color.

My name is Keira and I am a Cultural Preservationist, Author, African Historical Partisan and Owner of Uyoyaa.

Uyoyaa creates cultural mindful tools such as waistbeads and provide cultural wellness education.

Here is our issue: The mental and emotional health of black women is at an all time high. The productive resources and tools are limited within our community. We witness daily the miseducation and emotional play on African American youth and it festers into adulthood. Depression, anxiety and trauma is an uncomfortable norm. To combat these topics we have to have mindful accountability and a supportive platform to do so. Statically 1 out of 2 women suffer from mental illness, a spectrum that is often overlooked. In order to achieve productivity and success; awareness and assistance has to play a part in growth.

Here at Uyoyaa, we meet people where they are. We utilize their past experiences as reminders and learning platforms. We provide waistbeads, affirmations, workshops, talk platforms and more to aid in the growth process. We build sisterhoods and virtual connections to add an ease to the emotional work through. Providing professional resources and intentional guides allow us to understand the community's needs and provide guided assistance.

Uyoyaa utilizes cultural awareness as a help agent to mental and emotional distress. We tied waistbeads on many women that have a need for intention and mindful reminders of wholeness. Our workbook on puberty targets African American youth and  allows girls of color to see relatable imagery and help to validate their place and greatness among peers. We assist black women by helping them understand their mental wellness issues and provide a communal safe space for clarity and understanding. We stand with and within our community. 

We are crowdfunding to provide a physical presence within our community. A space for creating, a space for mindful outlet and a space for community connection. We want to continue to support our community through workshops physically and virtually. So we are asking for your financial assistance in doing so.
