Project Description
Mission
Our mission is to get girls excited about action adventure sports at a young age through children’s books using real sports, relatable stories, and rad girls!
Problem
By middle school, girls are 2x more likely than boys to drop out of sports because they don’t feel encouraged by society to continue participating.
This is a problem because sports teach persistence, develop strength and coordination, and are an outlet for stress relief and anxiety.
Tribe of Daughters
T.O.D. is a children’s book series that tells stories which are relatable to young girls as they learn a new sport.
We tackle topics like bravery, confidence, and sportsmanship.
Our focus is on creating quality books meant to be passed down over generations.
Books are 8 x 10 inches in size and feature thick, textured paper which brings the watercolor illustrations to life and a hardcover that is velvety smooth to the touch!
All of the tiny details were considered when creating our books for the most engaging and tactile read with your little one.

About us
The T.O.D. book series is written & illustrated by 2 sisters from NC who were raised with a love of nature, the ocean, and adventure.
The author Ashley Norris, an Early Childhood Educator, was looking for a book about surfing for her daughters. When she couldn’t find any that met her expectations she decided to write her own.
So, she called her sister, Jess, a surfer and artist living in New Zealand to help illustrate the book. And the rest was history.

What reading level is the book for?
Our books are written for Early Readers.
Why did we choose to tell our stories using rhyme?
Rhyming is an important part of literacy development for children. The natural cadence and pattern of words presents the story in a pattern that feels like a song.
Plus, its important for children to develop awareness of rhymes because they will start to hear how words are similar and different. Recognizing or creating rhymes requires a child to isolate two parts of the word (the beginning and the end). This is a skill they will need when they learn to read because they will be isolating and blending sounds to read new words.
What about the Quality?
When we created our books, we paid close attention to details that we believe contribute to high quality children's literature. From the moment you pick up a T.O.D. book, you senses are immediately engaged.
You can feel the matte textured cover and the weight of the paper that was selected is heavy card stock to compliment the use of the water colors that illustrate the pages.
The book is sturdy and meant to be durable..standing the test of time and love of a child who takes their favorite book with them everywhere they go.
How will Tribe of Daughters use the money that is raised?
The $15,500 will be used directly to cover the publishing, printing, shipping, copy & design edit, and campaign fees.
What if you don't meet your funding goal?
We have elected to be on a flexible funding option for this campaign. This means that regardless of whether or not we hit our funding goal, we will get to keep the money raised and will be responsible to deliver the purchased prizes.
