The Crafters House

Depression, post-traumatic stress, workplace stress and fatigue are only some of the mental health problems that crafting can help relieve.

The Crafters House (“TCH”) was created to inspire people to live life to its fullest. There are numerous studies and report that recognizes the relationship between engagement with the creative arts and health outcomes through engagement with artistic activities, either as an observer of the creative efforts of others or as an initiator of one’s own creative efforts.  Crafting has been proven to enhance one’s moods and emotions

The Crafters House is a haven that provides escape from the stress of daily chores where people can unwind and rekindle their passion for creating by hand. With a variety of crafting options, customers can find their niche - whether it's painting, graphic design, jewelry making, woodworking or something else. Not only does TCH offer craft workshops and open studio time for adults, but we also offer a Children's Studio for STEAM projects and fun!

The Crafters House is located in Birmingham Alabama.  Its therapeutic studio offers tools and supplies for Painting, Woodworking; Sewing, Graphic Design and Children Studio.  The Crafters House open space encourages and inspires  crafters and makers to make jewelry, paint and throw pottery, scrap book and perfect gift wrapping. TCH warm environment will be open seven days a week for those who need to distress during lunch or participate in an afternoon wine down.   

Funding Needs

TCH is a minority female veteran owned small business.  COVID- 19 has caused a significant financial burden on our business.  As a result, we have relocated our business to the Local Birmingham Mall, in an attempt to gain more foot traffic and interest.  This relocation and new strategy requires TCH to think more innovative Based upon the potential new clients. After reevaluating the inventory and equipment needs to support the business, additional funding is needed.  The funds raise from this campaign will fund inventory for each of the crafting activities; painting, graphic design, jewelry making, woodworking or something else.  In addition, the funds will go to hiring staff and trainers to assist with empowering women to start a business in a crafting trade.

I, the Owner has self funded this endeavor for both the precious rental location and staff.  Those funds have been depleted and 

The Founder

After an honorable discharge from the US Army, I, Shawn Hicks, has worked in the corporate field of Real Estate Development. Throughout my tenure of managing large scale mixed use mixed finance developments, I began the hobby of woodworking. This hobby turned into a part time and seasonal consulting service for neighbors. After a completed self-home renovation, I turned to fewer demanding crafts; jewelry making, painting and needle work.

After 20 years in corporate America, I decided to to create a Real Estate Development Consulting Service, BrillWay Development. Six months afterwards, I felt the same stress and decided that I would share my love of crafting in a retail environment, The Crafters House.
