My name is Laurel Sparks! I am a small business owner from Hood River, OR! I have been working as a photographer out of my home studio and partnering up with a local hotel for indoor shoots for the past two years! 2019 was the year that my side hustle finally became a legitimate business and I now operate as an LLC! I am also a licensed nail tech and esthetician working out of another salon in town. My DREAM is to merge my two business into a one stop shop for all things beauty and photography! Think of a modern twist to the Glamour Shots offered in the mall in the 80's & 90's.
My space will be a full service salon and photography studio (available to rent by other photographers), in an open loft with floor to ceiling windows in the heart of down town Hood River. There is NOTHING like this in my community! The space will double as an event space for wedding parties, bridal/baby showers, and so much more!
Clients can have access to the fashion closest for shoots
Professional Makeup Services + branded retail sales of makeup/skin care
Professional High End Nail Services
Professional Hair Services: full color, cuts & styling
Professional Salon Hair Care Products
Furniture (The space will be a show room for high end furniture)
Wedding Receptions/Rehearsal Dinners
Pop up Shops
Lets Make it Happen
My goal with this business venture is to create a beautiful and inviting salon and photography studio including a test kitchen, in one large open space that can be divided with floor to ceiling curtains for privacy. A space that can be transformed easily into a private event space for weddings, bridal showers, baby showers and more.
I have an extensive back ground in leadership and business management. I am raising money for this business venture because I think crowd funding is the best way to start something new. If an idea is worth it, people will donate!
Giving Back to the Community
Anyone who knows me knows, that giving back to my community is something I have ALWAYS been extremely passionate about. Having a space such as the one I am about to create would give me and many other people the space and opportunity to give back to the community. As an HRVHS Alumni Class of 2006 and former art student, I have always dreamed of being able to give back to the school where I fell passionately in love with ART. I was part of the first ever photography class at HRVHS and here I am today, a successful photographer on the verge of opening up a beautiful studio in my home town.
I want to share my studio with the students of HRV. I want to have a scholarship program for the Arts sponsored by Sparks Fly Artistry. I want to be able to welcome students into my studio space to learn and for them to have a place to create art. I'm not sure of the details, but its something I am very passionate about doing and something that would be part of the foundation of this brick and mortar.
I am a passionate woman, who has been an entrepreneur her entire life, starting up my first business at the age of 12 making hand crafted jewelry out of my bedroom and selling it on consignment at two local boutiques in Hood River back in 2000. I have always been a dreamer, I have always been a hard worker who chases after her dreams and works tirelessly to set an example for my two children. My boys are my reason I work so incredibly hard to make a better future for our family. I am HUNGRY for success and I have worked so hard the past four years to get to where I am.
Four years ago I was finally able to leave the 6 year long abusive marriage I was in. Domestic Violence is the number one killer of women world wide and the thought of these boys living without their mother was my driving force to get out and stay out. I have finally been able to chase my dreams and raise these boys to be thoughtful, caring and kind young men. As Sparks Fly Artistry continues to grow I plan on hosting an annual benefit to help survivors of domestic violence in the Columbia River Gorge, there is not enough funding or safe havens or resources for women and children in our community. Sparks Fly Artistry will always be an advocate for DV Survivors.
I am happy to say I am remarried to a wonderful man who supports me in all of my wildest dreams and loves these boys as his own. We are in the beginning stages of the adoption process! These boys have been calling my husband dad since before we got married, and THEY chose to do so. There is so much love between them, its one of the coolest things I've ever been blessed to witness.
Today I am now a successful business owner and entrepreneur, I have been published multiple times and featured in the largest local art gallery in the Columbia River Gorge for my photo series "The Hands that Feed Us" a farm to table photo essay celebrating diversity in the agriculture and restaurant industries. Just recently a book deal was put on the table, how cool!
I have always been an artist, in every sense of the word. Painting, jewelry making, sketching, singing, writing poetry, and the culinary arts. Art is in my soul and photography is my purest form of art, my goal is to capture the true beauty of whom ever or what ever is in front of my lens. I edit using Lightroom, I never manipulate photos beyond reality... photos are meant to capture truth and as a photographer that is exactly what I do.
What will the money be used for?
The money raised with this crowd funding campaign will go directly towards completion of renovations on the space as well as furnishing the space. Sparks Fly Artistry will have a fully branded cosmetics line to use on our clients and for resale. We will have a fully loaded event space, with tables, chairs, flatware and china. My vision for this space is to have something versatile, a place where we can have events, pop up shops, cooking classes, art shows, all while being a fully functioning salon and photo studio by day.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING DONATING TO THIS AMAZING SPACE THAT IS NOT ONLY FOR SFA BUT FOR OUR COMMUNITY.
Please take a peak at my website and social medias to get an idea of who I am. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and thank you so much to those of you who choose to support me. I appreciate you.
