Socanomics: Join The Tribe!

^{SOCANOMICS® is a dance-fitness workout & platform inspired by Caribbean Carnival and fueled by Soca Music.  Our mission is to heal, elevate, and unite our community through wellness and culture. We offer virtual classes, on-demand, and live experiences through our platform socanomics.com.  This fitness method is for women of all ages and has helped shape women of color particularly, to build confidence and self-esteem in the way they look and feel!}

_{^{OUR STORY:}}

^{Since the start of the Pandemic, We’ve created a global community for women of color to feel included and empowered in fitness and wellness spaces.  What began as a pop-up signature workout, transformed into a virtual-fitness experience as a result of helping people maintain their physical and mental health during the Covid-19 pandemic.} 

^{SOCANOMICS® seamlessly combines dance, fitness, and the energy of Caribbean carnival into energizing workouts & empowering experiences; creating a judgement-free and safe space for students to feel sexy, stay in shape, and build community from the comfort of their homes. Like Caribbean Carnival, Socanomics is empowering, healing, and liberating!} 

^{The SOCANOMICS® virtual experience offers a menu of both on-demand and subscription based classes, taught by professional dancers and super star fitness trainers. Our classes are designed for all level movers and empowers students to channel their confidence and self-expression through movement.}

_{^{GROWING THROUGH A PANDEMIC:}}

^{Prior to the covid-19 pandemic, Socanomics operated out of fitness boutiques and brick and mortar studios. Once they all closed down, Socanomics was also out of a home. In an effort to help people to stay in shape, Selena dedicated herself to teaching SOCANOMICS® virtually on instagram live, offering donation based workouts to a growing international student base.}

^{Due to this growing demand, we built our own virtual platform to convert our social media following into a loyal members. We have since been featured on The Doctors TV, collaborated with brands such as Motown Records, Curly Girl Collective, Travel Noire and Black Enterprise, and most recently won Women's Health Magazine 2021 Fit Tech Award for Best "Empowering Dance Parties."}

^{Beyond these accolades, our most important accomplishment has been fostering the personal growth and transformation of our students and instructors. From weight loss to economics sustainability, SOCANOMICS® has truly made a major impact in the lives of our community and our organization. This has been a beautiful journey and we're excited to see where the next steps take us! Now that venues have opened back up, we've taken the Socanomics dance fitness experience to a higher level - up close and personal to cities across the United States and around the world!}

_{^{WHY CROWDFUNDING:}} 

^{This grant will accelerate the growth our business as we work toward becoming a global leader in the fitness-technology industry. With a constant demand for both live and virtual experiences, our chief objective is to expand by:}

• ^{Developing a mobile app for Socanomics, giving us more custom functionalities, providing our customers more accessibility and creating a more engaging user experience.}

• ^{Onboarding and equip each of our instructors with their own professional mobile-home studio kit that allows them to produce high quality virtual experiences from anywhere in the world.}

• ^{Growing our Instructor Team and Increase our class offerings to meet our international demand for live and virtual experiences.Investing in digital and experiential marketing campaigns to grow and keep our subscriber base.}

_{^{MEET THE FOUNDER:}}

^{Selena Watkins is the Founder/CEO of Socanomics, with high credentials as a professional dancer, notable health and fitness trainer, and winner of Miss Black USA 2012. She has changed lives by bringing dance, fitness, and fun virtually to the homes of many during the pandemic!  A leading force in both the entertainment and fitness, her credits include but not limited to performing with Shakira for the Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show, Nicki Minaj World Tour, Beyonce's Black is King, Trainwreck the Movie, and the NBA Brooklynettes. Her career began after graduating Magna Cum Laude from Rutgers University with a BFA degree in both Journalism and Dance.  She dedicated the following years to public service as a motivational speaker and ambassador for Heart Health. During her time as an instructor at SoulCycle, she was named "Women’s Health Magazine’s Next Fitness Star.  Through these experiences, Selena recognized a consistent lack of diversity in fitness spaces, inspiring her to use her platform to create a huge shift in the industry.}

_{^{HOW DOES OUR SOLUTION IMPACT THE COMMUNITY?}}

_{^{What we’ve learned from our tribe is that fitness looks like all bodies and all ethnicities. They are women of color, age 35 and up, with families and careers; they’re able to make commitments, and just need fun incentives to workout.}}

_{^{Some of our students have really used Socanomics as a lifeline to not only get through the pandemic, but to reconnect with their bodies. We’ve had students who have used Socanomics to overcome their battle with cancer, to recover from covid and simply to jumpstart their wellness journey. Socanomics is more than a fitness routine. It is a lifestyle! We’ve seen how much impact we’ve created and we know that it is our responsibility to grow as a company so that we can reach as many people as we possibly can.}}
