Project Description

  • Our Mission: The Sensual Wholeness Academy is a group coaching program for women and non-binary folk focused on reclamation and healing after sexual or relationship trauma, body image issues or internalized homophobia. We create a supportive global community and coaching space for participants to experience embodied reclamation and somatic healing.

  • Why this is important: According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Centre, by 1998, 17.7 million American women were victims of rape or attempted rape. 81% of women report experiencing sexual harassment in their lifetime. According to NEDA, 70% of girls feel they are not good enough. By age 13, 53% of girls are unhappy with their bodies and by age 17 that number grows to 78%. All of us are affected by sexual violence and cultures of objectification, misogyny, transphobia, fatphobia and homophobia in various ways. It's essential that we create safe and accessible spaces for folk to gather, unlearn these harmful narratives and embody something truly rooted in consent, empowerment and embodied safety.

  • What is the market size/opportunity? In just 2 years, the Sensual Wholeness Academy has been able to support 100 women and non-binary folk in this reclamation. Our clients have experienced results like: claiming queerness, breaking silence on abuse they've endured for years, leaving toxic relationships and harmful work environments, starting their dream careers, stepping into powerful leadership & advocacy roles and more. Having supported folks in Fiji, Colombia, Finland, Germany, Australia, Canada and the USA - what's clear is that women and non-binary folk all over the world are in need of spaces that prioritize healing, reclamation, somatic healing and empowering, embodied education. Our goal is to reach 200 more individuals in our 2022-2023 season. By running our programs virtually, we have the potential to reach folks in towns that may be especially homophobic, misogynistic, transphobic and lacking in sex education. What we know is that these programs range from empowering to potentially life saving.

  • Our approach: Our queer-led, trauma-trained team takes an approach to reclamation that is rooted in somatic sex education, social work and mental wellness. Combining educational video trainings with live workshops and 24/7 community support via our online platform, we ensure that participants get the care that they deserve and need. Our curriculum includes topics like: consent education, claiming and communicating boundaries, trauma release practices, 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusive sex education, body image trainings and media literacy and more. Watch the above video to hear from our clients themselves about how transformative this work and these spaces can be.

  • Funding and vision: With your support and this funding, we will be able to meet the 3 following goals. 1) Marketing and outreach through Facebook Advertisements: We know that women and non-binary folk are in need of these community spaces, somatic healing modalities and resources. We want to reach the folks who need this work most and we need funding in order to do it. 2) Trauma-trained Team Expansion: We want to bring on more team members to best support this amazing global community. We are committed to bringing on facilitators with a background in trauma training and we believe these folks should be well compensated for their important work. 3) Scholarship program: We strive to be aware of the ways that inequity exists in the world. The unbalanced social systems embedded within structural racism and transphobia means that programs like the SWA are not equally accessible to everyone. For that reason, a percentage of this funding would allow us  to offer a set of needs-based scholarships for the SWA, prioritizing Black, Indigenous, women of colour and transgender women.
