SciTech Kids Learning Pods

MISSION

Our mission is to raise funds to subsidize learning pods for underserved families in New York City who can not afford the academic support needed for blended learning.  A learning pod is a group of students who complete distance learning assignments with the support of an in-person instructor. This structured setting provides the extra help families need to meet the academic needs of their  children under remote learning.  The benefits of pods include one-on-one instruction, social interaction with friends, and real-time help with schoolwork. 

THE PROBLEM

Families deeply affected by COVID-19 in underserved communities do not have the resources to provide their children with the additional support that students from wealthier families will receive.  This lack of support will only increase the achievement gap in disadvantaged students. What'ss needed are instructors and educational resources to be provided to the most vulnerable students. 

OPPORTUNITY 

We are looking to set up a learning pod in three communities in either Brooklyn, Manhattan, or the Bronx. Proceeds will be used to pay for quality instructors who will undergo extensive screening, including fingerprinting, background checks, and health screens. We want to make sure that the children that need high-quality instruction the most will receive it.

SCITECH KIDS

SciTech Kids is an educational company that has a proven track record  of working with underserved communities.  We also have implemented various educational programs in NYC public schools through the city and see learning pods as an extension of the work we have already done with students. We have created learning pods at our facility and want to implement our same program in underserved communities to foster educational equity so that no child is left behind. 

NEED FOR FUNDING

We are seeking funding to subsidize the program and will spend it on the teaching staff and supplemental educational resources students will need.  Our goal is $100,000.

OUR TEAM

We have a wonderful team of instructors at SciTech Kids who will implement the program and the support of our partner, Motivationcheck, who will customize the best program that suits each learning pod.
