Project Description

America is the wealthiest nation on the planet yet our healthcare is more expensive and less effective than most other developed nations. This is the 21st century and there is no excuse!

There is a better way

Many Americans have experienced excellent and affordable healthcare elsewhere in the world, we need to get those stories out! These stories will help convince more Americans to believe in the dream!

The current way isn’t working

Medical bills cause more than 600,000 bankruptcies every year. The CDC estimates that 45,000 Americans die every year just because they don’t have insurance. This loss of life is absurd, destructive, and harmful to your friends, family, and the economy.

It’s time for a safety net

America is way overdue for medical and health reforms. Now is the best time to get the message out, to show everyone how it can be, and lay out a roadmap to get there.

The Roadmap to Medicare for All

Step one is information and education. The biggest problem is that people just don’t know how much better it could be! There is a lot of disinformation out there, and a documentary is one of the best ways of getting the information out there. We will illuminate the truth, facts, stories, and experiences about universal healthcare.

It’s all about voter consensus

For better or worse, politicians want to get reelected and will work very hard to appease their voters. If the voters come to a consensus on an issue, the politicians will respond. The way to build consensus is to inform and educate voters - with a high caliber documentary! Already, 55% of American voters are in favor of a single-payer system like Medicare For All. We are at a watershed moment and just need to build a little bit more support for the idea to make it a reality.

We are conducting interviews across America and across the world

We’re interviewing people who have witnessed better healthcare firsthand as well as people who have had their lives destroyed by our current system. Furthermore, we will be interviewing researchers and policy experts about the nitty gritty - the nuts and bolts of medicare for all. Lastly, we will be interviewing medical providers about their perspective and insight on the barriers they face to providing top quality medical care. We are going to get a deep cross section of the issue from across America as well as outside America. We can emulate the success of other nations

The Project FAQs

Why Universal Health Care?

Health care in America is unnecessarily expensive and inefficient. Universal health care, as demonstrated by every other developed nation, is more economical and more equitable.

Private insurance companies are the gatekeepers of health care in America, and they often make decisions about care with respect to their bottom line - and not what is in the best interest of patients.

Why make a documentary?

The foremost problem with the state of health care, and what needs to be done to fix it, is misinformation. Insurance lobbyists have a lot of influence in Washington, plus the insurance companies spend a lot of money muddying the waters. A documentary is a great way to get the conversation going and to shine some light on this issue.

What will my contribution be used for?

Your contribution to this documentary will be used entirely for the nuts-and-bolts of making this film. It will pay for the time and labor of the film crew, editors, and graphic artists. Your contribution will also facilitate travel, so that we can interview a broader array of industry experts, academics, economists, and doctors. In some cases, we will fly these experts in from abroad to conduct interviews. In other cases, we need to travel to them - but travel is expensive!

What will you do with this documentary?

We will distribute this documentary as far and as wide as possible. That means taking it film festivals, pitching it to streaming services, and sharing it via social media. We have one singular mission with this documentary: to help make universal health care a reality in America.
