TL;DR

We'd like to skip the 'green' marketing, and get right to the truth. We're sharing data to help others do the same--starting with our newsletter.

Our origin story

At the height of the BLM protests in the summer of 2020, I wanted to support businesses that had strong ties to Black communities and showed progress in reducing racial inequality and injustice. But there was a problem—the data that would help me make more informed buying decisions wasn’t neat and organized, nor easy to find. I had to sift through dozens of news articles, government websites, public sustainability reports, and investor rating sites, and piece together the information to build a list of places to patronize or avoid. Enter: Rebel Data.

Consumers currently have little idea where their money goes when they shop. How do you know whether Company A or Company B is better aligned with what matters most to you? There's just too much data out there, and it's too hard to find, analyze, and action. Company A might treat their employees very well but hire fewer women to leadership roles; Company B might empower women but offer fewer sustainable choices. Finding that out could take hours—which is time nobody wants to spend when hovering over the "CHECK OUT" button.

Today Rebel Data offers a free comparison service. Sign up to find out how different companies stack up. (Not sure what to expect? Check out a few of our recent comparisons.) Our goal is to collect and display all that information in a clean, clear, and approachable way, so you can make informed, conscious shopping decisions. This leads to greater corporate transparency, and from the companies' perspective, makes it easier to figure out which causes are most important. Our goal is to extend our offerings to include an app that makes it easy to proactively assess and monitor companies.

We want consumers to have the power of knowledge behind them. To know what they’re supporting before they buy. We’re healthy skeptics who want companies to remember that we’re more than our money—and that the times, they are a-changing.
