Open much needed community oriented Laundromat

Zion Laundromat, LLC  provides a much needed self service laundry facility that is community oriented, providing a clean, friendly atmosphere with competitive prices.  Satisfying the community needs for a community friendly environment with a clean environmental footprint using new high efficiency washers and dryers.

Zion Laundromat is located in the Frog Hollow neighborhood in Hartford CT.  Our Laundromat is small, but it will provide our customers with all the amenities of the bigger laundromats including Wi-Fi, fast and efficient machines, and coin and card options.  The demographics on this location surpasses the industry standards, increasing our potential to grow our customer base over time. The demographics also show that this community is one of the many communities across America impacted heavily by  the COVID pandemic.  Your donations will help provide free washes to the residents within this community impacted looking for some financial relief at this time.

Who we are, a woman owned family business.  This is our first brick and mortar business as well as our first laundromat.  I purchased the property in 2018, a mix-use property with tenants currently living in the residential units.  The commercial unit was vacant, and new zoning laws in Hartford CT limited my options on what kind of businesses could use the space.  My options were to turn the space into a residential unit or what is was originally zoned to be which was a Laundromat.  After doing the demographic studies on the location, additional research with Laundromat equipment vendors, and an extensive cost analysis. I also surveyed the neighborhood, talked to residents about using the space as a Laundromat, and they all agreed a Laundromat would be perfect for the community. Today, the majority of residents have to drive or pay to have someone commute them to the nearest Laundromat, so the location made sense for a Laundromat and the community will support it. I started on this journey in November of 2019, picking a laundromat vendor, securing the loan for the equipment with the help of my family, securing funding for the construction phase through personal funding and an SBA loan.  I was able to secure funding in March of 2020, but a world pandemic hit and slowed things down tremendously.  We have been working this ever since and my goal is to have the laundromat open by January 2021.

We are seeking additional funding to complete the Laundromat and open for business.  Currently the laundromat has the necessary equipment inside the location (washing machines, dryers, chairs, folding tables, laundry carts, etc.). We are seeking funding to complete additional construction items such as; installing a drop ceiling material and labor, completing the HVAC and plumbing work, purchase and install interior and exterior doors,  etc.  We went over budget on unplanned repairs, such as replacing the back roof of the building, and bringing the property up to code in order to provide a safe location for our customers.  The money will be used to complete the additional construction items remaining, with a plan to open in January 2021.  With your donations not only will we be able to open the Laundromat to service the community, but we can also provide much needed help during this pandemic which has disproportionately impacted communities such as this one by providing a necessity, clean clothes free washes using our facilities with your donations. Any help will be greatly appreciated thank you.
