Project Description

We are a small non-profit organization working in the Dallas Fort Worth area.  We provide food and clothing for the homeless.  When Sacred Heart sees a need in the Dallas Community, with the help of volunteers, this local organization also work to fill the need, whether it be food, water, clothing, job placement/resume building, or moral support. At Sacred Heart, we are committed to ending homeliness to all veterans, individuals, and families by fostering stability, compassion, providing life-changing supportive services, and improving the quality of life for a better tomorrow.

Twice a month we, Sacred Heart Transitional Place provide soul warming food, blankets, coats, shoes, and gently used clothing in attempt to prepare the homeless for winter in the heart of Downtown Dallas. "Sharing The Warmth, Feeding the Soul, and Keeping Homeless Dry". We're excited to spread our mission in the Dallas, Fort Worth area, but there's only so much Sacred Heart Transitional Place can do with limited resources. We can't provide shelter, healthy meals, gently used clothing, or continuously pick up donations without the community, city, government, and your help! We are attempting to create a safe homeless shelter in order to help these people more.

While we feel blessed to have been able to collect/distribute/feed the homeless the past seven months; the need is still clothing, food, water, and shelter. The pandemic and our collapsing economy have created a perfect storm “poverty”. Resulting in the majority of the Dallas shelters being over capacity, full to the brim, turning people away each night. Not to mention the social-distancing requirements have significantly reduced space, with shelters delays in accepting single adults without a quarantine period. The inconsistent hotel accommodations provided by the City isn’t enough and abruptly ends without notice. Prior to this the City of Dallas hadn't provided services or shelter for the growing number of impoverished individuals and families since the closing of the Dallas Convention Center, August 15th.

Our volunteers pay for, cook, and buy supplies twice a month, and we distribute to the homeless.  We have accumulated 1,000 towards our project. Our proposal to create a dwelling for 300 people at an initial cost of $400,000 and a monthly cost of $12,000.  We have volunteers ready to man the facility, clean, cook, and provide essentials for the temporary inhabitants.  Our goal is to get these people back on their feet and become members of our community rather than outcasts. Your help to help would be so much appreciated

We will not be able to put our plan to action without your help and support. Thank you for your time and the opportunity you have given us in allowing us to present to you this proposal. Your donation to help homeless/displaced individuals weather the crises in their lives makes all the difference. Again, thank you for all you do. You are a part of their lives too. We do hope that we hear from you and be partners to our advocacy!

Respectfully,

April Bell
