Project Description
MusicTown Live (formerly Musique Live) is an app designed to help people find live local music. It began as an idea in a bar when two of the current owners (Kathi and Tamera) were trying to find somewhere to go to see live local music and dance. They were searching the internet and found that there was no easy way to find out where the music was playing. Kathi's daughter had recently received her Masters in Computer Science from Cornell Tech University so the three got together to make an app to find live local music. MusicTown Live was born.
MusicTown Live released an MVP in April of 2017. Since that time we have attracted over 1000 users most of which have come back to use the app every month. We have several ways that we want to monetize the app but all of the projects require that we have more users. We are asking for $15,000 so that we can do an intensive social media campaign in the Washington DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia area promoting our new product, Mystery Tickets. We would also be using the funding for a campaign to get local venues to promote our app inside the venues. This will require printed materials as well as postage. This campaign will add between 3,000 and 5,000 users to our app which will then allow us to generate ticket income to continue future campaigns.

It is reported that 40% of all music venue tickets go unsold each year. Most of those are at small and midsize venues like the ones MusicTown caters to. By offering Mystery Ticket we can help venues to sell their unused tickets and help our customers explore and grow the local music scene. A Mystery Ticket would be a same day ticket offered at a discount. The customer would pick the genre and the general area and would purchase the discounted ticket. After purchase they would find out what venue and band their ticket is for.
We have had a lot of positive feedback from the bands and venues that we have talked to and promoted since we began. With the Mystery Ticket launch we will be doing both social media and print media advertisements, and we will be putting printed materials in the bars that we are selling tickets for. We will need posters, table tents and fliers.
The risk would be that we would do all of this marketing and not get the users necessary to move forward. That seems unlikely as we have gotten over 1000 users in 10 months mostly from word of mouth. We need to begin to sell tickets to events in order to keep moving forward and expanding.
