Project Description
Midnight Woman is an anonymous submission platform dedicated to the abolishment of silence. We're creating a beautiful platform that is meant to showcase your stories the way they deserve to be seen. While remaining anonymous and ensuring safety for our contributors, every entry is edited by our team for clarity, grammar, and identifying details.
Our founder wanted a place to share a story and couldn't find anything just right. After some brainstorming, she came up with Midnight Woman: a place where people could unite because of what's happened to them. The emotions and experiences that we've experienced are the common thread through all of us, no matter the subject. Her story was sexual harassment. Others are oppression, falling in love for the first time, spirituality, etc. - there are no guidelines.
The launch of our online store, where we'll sell Midnight Woman merchandise as well as partner with brands and makers we believe in.
The Midnight Hour - our sister site, an online magazine featuring people sharing stories non-anonymously. Interviews and photo essays will be some of the other content we feature.
The first feature we're launching is on the wonderful Sharon Van Etten, who was gracious enough to chat with us in Los Angeles this past spring.
Website advancements: more user-friendly submission form, etc.
A scholarship initiative for college students - we want to offer scholarships to sexual assault/abuse survivors attending college or university.
Long-term goals:
- an iPhone app that makes submitting to Midnight Woman easy and user-friendly. We absolutely want to make our site accessible to everyone including our core audience.
- a hardbound book filled with our first year's worth of anonymous submissions.

The Campaign FAQs
FAQ + concerns:
What are you?
We're an online platform. You submit stories or experiences and we edit them. After they're edited for clarity, grammar, and identifying details, we publish your story on our beautiful website.
Why?
We think experiences are important, and that our stories unite us. Whether you write about a good day you had, a date you once went on, or your experience oppression, it's still a sufficient submission. Please feel free to submit whatever you'd like as long as you aren't trying to harm someone else.
I'm scared someone is going to know it's me submitting. What should I do?
We do not identify you by name or reveal contact information (if you give it to us) to other Midnight Woman contributors. However, we cannot prevent others from determining your identity from the content you post or how you share content through third party sites. Our intention is for all submissions on Midnight Woman to be anonymous and safe for contributors. We edit for identifying details to enforce this, and ask you to be aware of the specific details you give us. So, if you don’t want to share something publicly, we recommend don’t submit it to Midnight Woman for publication.
Is the site only for women?
No! Our namesake comes from the French folklore Les Lavandières. The tale ends a bit darkly, but we like to think of ourselves as people who wring the cloths of silence. To answer your question, our site is not limited to those who identify as female.
Where is my money going?
To the design and improvements of our website, the creation of our online magazine, our advertising materials (pencils, tokens, paper goods), the initial production of our merchandise, and our scholarship program. If you want more details on what's coming, just shoot us an email.
