Plant Lyfe is a plant based food concept aimed at bringing a contemporary spin to traditional Bajan comfort food while making it plant based.
We want to make plant based food more accessible to both locals and tourists by keeping the cost down while offering choices that people would be interested in trying.
Barbados has a population of almost three hundred thousand people, with an additional tourist market (before covid) of over 1 million visitors per year. Even though Barbados is a very meat heavy country the high rate of non communicable diseases like diabetes and high blood have a lot of locals looking for an alternative.
We use produce and resources from local farmers to lower our carbon footprint and keep costs down. We also use green practices like growing our own herbs + seasonings and composting to lessen our environmental impact while introducing this society, which consumes a lot of meat, to the idea that plant based food can be delicious and filling.
We have a stall in the local farmers market in Bridgetown three days a week but our hours of operation are dictated by the market hours. We would like have full production space and acquire a food truck. This would extend our operation hours and also make our food more accessible to other parishes by having food truck pop ups.
The team is led by Allison Burnham. Vegan chef owner of Coconut Baby catering. Also cook book author "Island Love On A Plate."
