Let's build a Temple of Dance for Tulsa!
Tulsa's own 18+ dance studio is only one fundraiser away from becoming a reality! Help make it happen.
Project Description
Temple of Dance is not your typical dance studio-- it is exclusively, and inclusively(!) for adults, ages 18+. We will be offering a wide variety of dance fitness and dance instruction classes for all ability levels, beginner to pro.
I'm Carrie. I'm a dancer, dance instructor and choreographer in the Tulsa area. I'm also mom to my 7 year old son. And I know all about the struggles of being an adult who wants to dance.
The thing is when you become an adult, your options to learn dance greatly diminish. Most traditional studios are for child ages 3-18. There is currently no studio in the Tulsa area that offers adults, of all ability levels, the opportunity to learn hip-hop, jazz, modern, ballet, and other styles all under one roof. And there is no dedicated studio for dance fitness classes and training programs.
At Temple of Dance, the focus is on the adult dancer. We'll be offering many classes for beginners just starting out. And for more experienced dancers, there will be a wide variety of classes to further hone their skills. We will also be offering homegrown dance fitness classes 5 days a week-- No Zumba! I'm talking about programs people created right here in Tulsa, Oklahoma!
There are two things I know and love: dance and small, local business. I have been a student of dance most all my life, and an assistant, teacher, and coach for 17 years. I have managed many a small business, yoga and dance studio. And I have an awesome, wide, established network of instructors and choreographers, many of whom are already on board to teach at Temple of Dance.
I have an undying passion for dance and offering this space to my community. But I need your help to make it happen! I am asking *you*, friends, family, colleagues and believers to help me secure the initial funding to open this studio in Tulsa. With your help I can put down the security deposit and first month's rent to get Temple of Dance up and running! The studio I have picked out is ready to go, minus sound systems and some furniture. So your donations will go directly towards getting into the studio to be able to start offering classes as soon as possible.
I'm asking for your community support and donations of all shapes and sizes to bring this to life.

- Where will Temple of Dance be located?

- What if I'm not 18?
- Special exceptions may be made for mature teens.
- When will the studio be opening?
- We're tentatively planning on opening March 2021.
- What types of dance classes will be offered?
- Definitely hip-hop, jazz, jazz-funk, ballet, modern, and dance fitness classes in these styles as well. Planning to also offer African jazz with live drumming, ballet with live piano accompaniment, swing, belly dance, tap, heels, contemporary, musical theater, and praise & worship. Most class offerings will depend on instructor availability and student interest.
- What if you don't meet your fundraising goal?
- We're still a-go! It might just take a little bit longer to get there. I am actively applying for grants and pursuing other means of financing. But my goal is to open Temple of Dance debt-free.
- But what about COVID-19?
- Fortunately, the studio is very spacious! It has two oversized dance studios that can easily fit 10-20 adults all socially distanced. Class sizes will be capped in step with current City of Tulsa COVID guidelines. And there will be regular cleaning and disinfecting of all trafficked areas.
- When will I get my reward?
- For t-shirts, I plan to place the order at the end of the fundraiser and it will take 1-2 weeks to receive the shirts, so mid-January is when I should have them in hand and can start distributing them. Dance class passes and packages will be applied to your account in Jan/Feb and you can start using them as soon as classes are on, tentatively March 2021. Dance videos and shout outs will be sent within 0-10 days of receiving your donation. And the Temple Builders wall should be ready to go when we open!
