Hello, my name is Taeisha Black. As a Manager of more than 20 years with one of the most celebrated natural hair salons in the country, I feel it is my duty to carry on its legacy.  It is a legacy steeped in customer care that offers a nurturing, safe space for our clients to bond and beautify.  A solution centered salon for your hair care needs and desires.  This legacy now includes three generations. It allows us to have a positive and inspiring space for our young daughters and sons to feel proud and confident in their natural tresses and the styling options offered to them. 

While the doors have closed at Khamit Kinks, a door has opened for me to continue to grow and to hone my skills, not only as a Manager, but also as a Stylist, Stylist Coach, and Consultant. I can continue to practice my passion to beautify and serve. The name of my new salon will be Kinky Kollective.

Your donations will allow me and my team to acquire a space where we can offer the best in styling and service.

With your contributions, we will be able to take what we already have to the next level.  We will open a salon that will address not only your hair but other beauty services will be available to you under one roof ~ lashes, brows, facials, and other express beauty services to meet your needs.

What We Need & What You Get

We are seeking $25,000.00. Your contributions will go towards:

• Two months deposit and the first month's rent
• Build out of the salon space
• Installation of shampoo bowls, wall dryers, and lighting
• plumbing, electrical, painting
• Installation of communication systems, phones, wifi,
• We are offering perks that we look forward to sharing with you
• If we don't reach our entire goal, funds received will go towards securing a new space.

I enjoy serving others and thrived in my former work environment. There, I had the opportunity to meet and work with countless clients whose lives were transformed by the hair artistry offered at the salon.

It’s now possible to make my dream a reality. Our styling team will help to actualize my mission to continue training and coaching the next generation of stylists to treat, groom, and style healthy hair.

Our team and our clients are accustomed to an environment with a particular ambiance. We are currently sharing space in a salon that is not our own. While we’re grateful to be able to continue working, this temporary setting cannot accommodate the level of service we’re accustomed to providing. We must have our own salon space.  Your donations will help us to secure the type of salon space and environment we’ve come to be known for – a salon that is beautiful, welcoming, inspiring, and relaxing.

By backing this project you can be a part of helping to continue a legacy started by my mentor Anu Prestonia more than 40 years ago.  It was her mission to serve Black women and men while celebrating their value and the greatness of our people. You will be helping to keep a legacy alive, growing and thriving.

Risks & Challenges

There are some risks and challenges with this project.  Finding a large enough space that is affordable proves to be quite challenging in the New York real estate market. It is our desire to remain in downtown Brooklyn, but considering the cost of rents, we may have to consider other neighborhoods.

We have looked at dozens of spaces and we are certain of what will and won't work.  Over the years we have always worked from large and beautiful spaces.  With so many spaces on the market for rent, we are certain that we will find the right location.

We are working with a seasoned real estate broker to help us find the perfect home for Kinky Kollection.
