Question: When will Kaikoa's Original Maui Coconut Oil be available to purchase?

Answer: Pre-sales are available now through this crowdfunding campaign with an estimated delivery date of October 15th, 2023. Soft launch to the public is expected to begin approximately two weeks later.

Question: What is a GCMS assay and why is it important?

Answer: The short answer is, it is a purity test. A GCMS test produces an assay report (a chromatogram) that lists the compounds found in a substance (for instance, coconut oil). Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry tests are the industry standard to determine if a solution has adulterants or contaminants. We can provide GCMS assay tests on request. Our coconut oil routinely undergoes GCMS testing. 

Question: Where does your coconut oil come from?

Answer: Our oil supply is directly traceable to individual farms and families on a single island in Indonesia off the coast of Sumatra.  Our Certified Organic Control Union Certifications are recognized by USDA, JAS, and EU standards.  

Question: Why isn't your oil sourced from Maui or Hawaii?

Answer: Due to the high cost of land in Hawaii, it is not commercially viable to use the land for coconut oil production on any wide-scale basis.

Question: Who is Kaikoa?

Answer: Kaikoa is a Hawaiian avatar symbolizing our ethos (kai = ocean,  koa= protector). 

Question: Who is your target demographic?

Answer: We know that our philosophy, mission, and trade dress holds appeal to both men and women of all ages. Due to long standing family connections in Hawai’i, we expect Kaikoa's Original Maui Coconut Oil to have strong sell through and to be a category leader in the visitor market throughout the Hawaiian Islands. It’s a market we understand. In some ways Kaikoa’s Original Maui Coconut Oil was specifically designed for this market while still appealing to a global marketplace. We expect Hawai’i and Hawaiian visitors to be a core part of our market. Hawaii attracted  9.2 million visitors in 2022. This is without question our base demographic.

Question: What does ethically sourced mean? I see that term used a lot these days.

Answer: We can't speak for others, but for us, ethically sourced means a number of things. We know the trees, independent farmers, farmer collectives, and stakeholders who harvest our oil. Our women-led supplier, sources from a single 700 square mile island. We know our farmers practice regenerative and sustainable organic farming practices including seedling nurseries. We know the oil is processed from freshly harvested Certified Organic coconuts. We know that our oil is free from contaminants, pesticides, herbicides and other contaminants. We know that our oil is raw cold processed extra virgin oil (EVCO). No heat is used anywhere in the process. It's as close to origin as is possible for a product to be. We believe it is the finest coconut oil in the world. Our organic Control Union Certifications are recognized by USDA, JAS, and EU standards.  

Question: Is your product vegan? 

Answer: Yes, absolutely! Though it is an after-sun and pre-sun skincare oil, it is pure enough to drink! That is a claim no other skincare or suncare product can make. 

Question: So what exactly is in your product?

Answer: 100% raw cold processed extra virgin coconut oil. That's it. Nothing else. Our product is as close to origin as possible for a product to be. Our gentle cold process centrifugal extraction retains an astounding 50% MCT lauric acid content. No heat is introduced anywhere in the extraction process. Our coconuts usually undergo the extraction process in less than 48 hours after harvest. 

Question: What is lauric acid and how is it beneficial to skin?

Answer: Lauric acid is a naturally occuring multi-chain triglyceride found in our unprocessed coconut oil that is shown to provide moisturizing, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and collagen stimulating properties. 

Question: Do you use monkeys to harvest coconuts?

Answer: Absolutely not. All coconuts are harvested by hand in a traditional manner. Furthermore, no animal testing is used anywhere in our supply chain. 

Question: What will you use the funds you raise for?

Answer: We are ready to get oil in bottles and bottles in hands! We will purchase bottles, caps, and coconut oil to begin production as well as equip and rent a small storage and production facility to begin production and begin shipments in accordance with our business plan. 

Question: What is your COGS, SSV, and wholesale pricing? 

Answer: Our COGS is 1.50 USD per bottle. Our Suggested Store Value is 18.99 USD per bottle. Our wholesale price is 9.50 USD per bottle. 

Question: When will I receive my reward?

Answer: We will make every effort to see that rewards are delivered in the fourth quarter of 2023. We can't wait to send them to you!
