Project Description

Honoring Ourselves Survivor Support Fund

Did you know the rate at which Asian and Pacific Islander women are affected by sexual violence?

23% experienced some form of sexual violence according to AAPI Data (2018)

Although, the number is likely to be higher as reporting is not common within Asian and Pacific Islander communities due to a variety of reasons. Sexual violence is rarely talked about in many Asian diaspora spaces as well as many communities of color at large.

There is a lack of sufficient resources geared towards non-men survivors of color to empower them in decision-making and healing in their survivorship journeys. As a survivor myself, I saw a gap for not only education especially of the Pan Asian diaspora, but also the resources for Pan Asian diaspora non-men survivors. We are relegated to:

1) white spaces that do not center upon the experiences of non-men of color and our survivorship experiences

2) white spaces that educate from the aforementioned lens

3) guidance that does not take into account the intricacies of intersectionality

Sydney Rae Chin solves this problem by providing a solution that:

1. providing private coaching to non-men survivors of color ready to reclaim their wholeness and sensuality

2. providing workshops to Asian diaspora spaces, BIPoC led wellness spaces, and survivor led organizations

3. providing consulting to organizations ready to invest in creating workplaces geared towards survivor justice

My community are non-men of color survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence who are healing and reclaiming themselves in wholeness.

With this funding, 100% of it will go towards:

  • Covering three 2 hour 1:1 intensives where non-men of color survivors can reclaim their wholeness and sensuality through a co-created space
  • Covers one full scholarship for a non-man of color survivor who needs it in order to work 1:1 with me during a 6 month container

Additional funding will go towards:

  • workshop spaces for survivor led organizations

This will give survivors the ease and the peace they need to do the healing work they're called to do. Survivors deserve to not only survive, but thrive.

Visions and Values

My mission is to empower Pan Asian diaspora women and non-men survivors through holding space together, re-writing narratives , and to educate others on what it means to live as a survivor in this unprecedented time. By using intuition, I aim to combine guided discussions with intuitive connection.

So often, survivors are left to the margins both outside and within communities of color. Through coaching and workshop spaces, I help survivors become seen in the wholeness they deserve.

As a queer East Asian American woman, my goal is to hold space for myself so I can hold space for my communities that I belong to. There’s so much power in holding space for yourself. Community care doesn’t happen without self care. Self care isn’t always rainbows and butterflies; it is sometimes crying because you need release or journaling your anxieties or hard conversations where your friends call you in on mistakes that you’ve made. Holding space within communities is continuous, sometimes hard learning that is a life journey.

How Will This Funding Help

These donations allow me to rest with ease, but also support the community network of non-men of color that has helped me grow. I will be able to give my WOC therapist a much deserved raise in our 1:1 work that we've been doing over the last couple years. Her support in particular has helped me not only survive, but thrive in the way I've within the last two years. With her help, I've been able to move mountains for myself with the work we do together and take the risks I deserve.

Rest is revolutionary; it'll allow me to show up fully for myself in both my professional and personal life. As a solo-entrepreneur, I'm constantly working whether it's on my own healing work or setting up backend systems or marketing. This funding will allow me to rest and recharge.

The Campaign FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is your private coaching only open to non-men survivors of color?

Yes, I only work 1:1 with non-men of color survivors. Although, I work with white survivors through group settings, consulting, and guest coaching spaces. Check out my website, so we can find other ways to collaborate.

What are other ways I can support non-men survivors of color?

To support campus survivors, donate to End Rape on Campus or Know Your 9. For general survivorship, look to local transformative justice survivor-led collectives who do support for free to make healing accessible for all survivors.

Is Sydney an anti-racism educator?

No, although a lot of my work intersects with anti-racism and is rooted in anti-racist framework.
