Summer Sewing Class
In an effort to combat summer violence, we're launching a beginner's class designed to introduce girls in an underserved area to sewing.
Project Description
It's not an urban legend: crime rates across the U.S. do in fact spike in the summer months, particularly in underserved areas. Some cities see as much as a 35% increase in major crime types. With the decrease in structured school days and a lack of enrichment activities available to teens in impoverished communities, kids between ages 13-17 are the most affected by these crimes. Studies have shown that rates of criminal behavior among teens and young adults drop when their communities provide them with other ways to spend their time and earn money.
Although we hope everyone comes out of this social distancing quarantine only wanting to hug lol. H&H also wants to partner with all of you to ensure we're doing as much as possible to empower the young girls in low income communities. We plan to equip a group of local girls with a multi-faceted skill, paid job opportunity, and mentorship.
While lack of opportunities to organizations with enrichment programs in underserved areas are a major issue, inaccessibility to healthcare is another problem that residents in these neighborhoods face. These community members may not have access to medical care or gear to stay protected during these Covid 19 times. The free face masks will be provide multiple solutions to the occupants in poverty-stricken conditions.
We will be launching the summer sewing class in June 2020. The program will run for 4 weeks. The girls will meet 4 days a week where they will learn to sew filtered face masks. The masks will be given out freely within the community to help combat Covid 19 while enjoying the summer in groups.

Any additional funding will be used as sponsorships for the older girls in the class that will be going off to college in the Fall.

LaPorsche Jymi is the Founder & CEO of H&H. After searching for a satin lined baseball cap and coming up empty, LaPorsche designed her own. She grew up in an underserved area in Gary, IN where she had limited access to resources and mentorships. Her goal with the Summer Sewing Class is to give young, impoverished girls the opportunities that she did not have.

1. Does the satin lined hats come in different sizes?
No, they are adjustable.
2. Can I put my business' logo on the hat?
Yes, shop our site for that service. (That hat sale will be donated to the Summer Sewing Class
5. Does the satin make the hats unbearably hot?
It shouldn't but everyone is different. Satin is lightweight and breathable, it should not be much hotter than the traditional hat.

No biggie! Contact us within 10 business days of receiving the satin lined cap and let us know. We're happy to accept the return and refund 75% of the purchase price.
