Project Description

Hello,

My name is Sonya and my husband’s name is Coyd. We are small business owners. Our businesses supply income for our businesses as well as our family. Corona Virus has threatened our businesses in a horrific way. Turnin’ Hedz Barbershop, our Barbershop, is one of our businesses. It has been in operation for over 10 years. We are a pillar in the community. We donate our services for charitable events and worthy causes. We have five barbers and stylists that depend on us to survive. If we must close our doors that will affect them as well.

Xtraction Smoothies and Vegan Café is our other business. Xtraction was opened to provide healthy food, smoothies and supplements to help our community become and remain healthy. We would like to continue that charge because our country as a whole is the antithesis of health. Because of the Pandemic, we had to close both businesses in March and were closed for several months. During that time, we applied for EIDL and PPP loans but did not receive either. We weren’t receiving booth rent from the barbers since they were not working nor were we serving customers at Xtraction. We still, however, were responsible for not only the rent and utilities for Turnin’ Hedz and Xtraction, but the mortgage, utilities and food for our home and family.

In July, we were finally able to reopen. Slowly, business began to pick up for us. We were trying to bring the bills current and were hopeful that everything would fall into place quickly. After attending a funeral in November, both my husband and I contracted Covid-19. This caused us to have to shut down Xtraction again completely for one month. My husband, who is not only co-owner but a barber at Turnin’ Hedz, was not able to work and earn money during that month. If our businesses close, we will not be able to survive. We would have no source of income to even begin to open another location. Our barbers and stylists would be without a location to work. Our family would potentially be displaced.

My husband and I are used to being in the position to help others. Because of this we are not used to asking for help ourselves. I have been reminded that this can seem prideful and that I cannot allow pride to stop me from asking for help. I humbly come before you to ask for help. We are seeking financial assistance and are on an assignment to raise $30,000! The heading says save Xtraction but it's Turnin' Hedz that needs saving as well. We have only three weeks to raise the money needed to stay open. No amount is too small!

We do believe in miracles, signs and wonders!

Please also help spread the word about our plight by sharing our story. We would be more than grateful. If you are ever in Marietta, GA please stop by!
