Helen Rose Skincare: Let's Get Ready for RETAIL!

When was the last time you remember seeing Black men or a Black family as the FOCUS of a self-care campaign? Can you remember a time you ever walked through a major retailer and saw not only yourself, but also the generations before or after you represented all in the same ad campaign? If you have seen these campaigns we can all agree that they are few and far between.  This campaign is here to change that at your favorite local retailer. Let's think big. I'm talking Target, Ulta, and Sephora big. Imagine us with your help, changing the FACE of skincare. This. Is. HUGE.

Who Is Helen Rose Skincare

If you are not already familiar with Helen Rose Skincare, keep reading, the story gets juicy. My name is Day Bibb and I am the founder of Helen Rose Skincare. I create, handmake, and curate all-natural, vegan, eco-friendly skincare products that are designed to moisturize, heal and restore dry, damaged and irritated skin while soothing mood disruptions such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Helen Rose Skincare products provide long lasting deep moisture from ingredients with proven skin healing benefits. Our products are all natural and contain therapeutic grade essential oils hand picked for their ability to ground emotions, soothe symptoms of anxiety and promote restful sleep.  This is the epitome of integrating self-care and mental health.

Changing the Face of Self-Care

Self-care is an immensely important component in protecting our physical and mental health in our world of increasing uncertainty but there is a lack of representation and options for the majority of consumers as self-care is marketing primarily to the elite. Self-care is viewed and marketed as expensive indulgence only accessible to the rich and elite.  People of Color are routinely excluded from self-care marketing, especially as seen in ad campaigns of major retailers.

Representation Matters

We are solving that lack of representation in self-care marketing focusing on the diversity of all skin tones and body types.  Our marketing campaigns are inclusive and showcase people of color in a way that would change the face of self-care marketing with major retailers if given the opportunity. This includes Black men with dark skin tones as being the headline of our visuals and highlighting Black families in a generational bond. Our target customers see representations of themselves reflected in our marketing. This evokes a sense of connection and emotion that gives our customer a bond not felt with competing brands. All of these things can be accomplished by supporting this campaign.

Three. Two. One. RETAIL!

We are raising money to get retail ready! Helen Rose Skincare’s path heading into 2022 is to pitch to local, mid and large retailers. There are MANY opportunities emerging for Black owned companies, and this campaign’s goal is to get Helen Rose Skincare in a position to be successful through this process. We have been approached by mid-market regional buyers in the Pacific Northwest. Our current product specifications need to be updated to comply with the requirements to be on shelf. 

The funding from this campaign will be used to finish getting registered trademarks, invest in UPC codes, redesign Helen Rose Skincare labels and packaging to be retail compliant, hire 2 employees to create a team, and redesign our website to create a comprehensive user interface. 

Behind every great company is a great team. We have one part-time employee but it would benefit Helen Rose Skincare as a brand to start developing a team so I can shift some of my energy to growth instead of constantly being stuck in the weeds.

We will use funding to invest in redesigning and developing a website that assists our current customers and drives the acquisition of new customers. We want our customers to be able to shop in a way that is meaningful for them, whether that be by scent, mood, skincare problem or goal. We will invest in professional web design and plug-ins to make the shopper experience interactive and seamless.

Celebrating One Year in Our Brick and Mortar

Last year we launched a crowdfunding campaign in June with the intent of opening a brick and mortar storefront in Portland, OR and I'm proud to say we were successful! The Helen Rose Skincare store opened on July 18th, 2020 smack dab in the middle of a global pandemic. We have utilized the space not only as a store selling our products, but also as a community center of sorts. Every Saturday, in partnership with PDX Black Collective, we invite BIPOC businesses that do not have a physical space into the store to sell their merchandise at our popup market. With the support of our community, we have been privileged to serve thousands of customers in the Portland metro area and have generated over 250+ five star reviews.

Our Mission to Fight Domestic Violence

The mission of Helen Rose Skincare is to create inclusiveness within the Wellness Industry and directly support survivors of domestic violence in healing from trauma. I founded Helen Rose Skincare with the intent of creating a direct funding resource for my nonprofit organization, Om Thrive Foundation.  The mission of Om Thrive is to provide healing yoga and wellness resources and yoga practice to survivors of domestic violence and underserved communities of color.  My primary focus is to provide support to underserved and underrepresented communities to promote empowerment and change.

Helen Rose Skincare was named after my late mother, Helen Rose Sherrod Bibb who passed away in 2019. She was a mother, provider, and protector to everyone around her. She was my best friend, confidant, and inspiration.
