Harambee is a Swahili word that directly translates to “Let’s Pull Together.”

Why does The Harambee Collective matter? 

The intersection of being a womxn and a person of color often creates a unique experience of isolation and invisibility, specifically within the United States context. Womxn of color rarely have a space created by them and for them that they can call their own. The mission of The Harambee Collective is to curate experiences that provide womxn of color (WOC) with layered intimate connections to other WOC. The Harambee Collective invites WOC to practice the essence of Harambee by pulling together their resources, knowledge, and energy to directly address feelings of isolation, especially during this pandemic. We work to design unique digital opportunities that makes WOC feel seen, valued, and restored. 

What is The Harambee Collective's mission?

Our mission is to redress the false narrative that WOC do not support and love one another. We challenge the narrative that WOC must do everything by themselves by creating the conditions where women can truly practice the essence of Harambee through sharing information geared toward healing and thriving. We do this by:

• Designing virtual events that promote financial literacy, spiritual healing, natural hair care, interior design, and other relevant content.

• Guiding women to clarify their personal vision all while making ancestral connections to their purpose. 

• Curate personal and professional virtual networking opportunities. 

The design of our events allows women to choose their own path which can be guided by their personal desire to grow in knowledge about a particular content area or guided by particular desires for networking. Essentially, we are creating a culture where WOC women never have to feel alone. 

The Harambee Collective also works to provide financial and marketing support to womxn of color owned small businesses. A unique feature of The Harambee Collective is a subscription gift box called “My Sister’s Keeper.” The box features products from small businesses owned by womxn of color across the country. These businesses receive the full benefit of financially being supported and an increase in clientele. Anyone who purchases the box receives the benefit of truly being their sister's keeper.

How will The Harambee Collective utilize the $10,000? 

• Hire a web designer to build a website to house our recorded content, upload blogs, extend marketing, and create a digital message board for womxn to continue to connect outside of our virtual events. 
• Hire other content creators to present at future events, write blog posts, and produce recorded and live content
• Finalize the design for our custom “My Sister’s Keeper” subscription boxes
• Purchase custom subscription boxes including additional elements to personalize each box
