I'm Marlena Fitzpatrick and I've dedicated my career to the arts and social justice. I've had the opportunity to publish in great media platforms and say what I have to say. We're now living in a very divisive era, where content is by design and categorized by view points. Rarely dissident voices co-exist in the same sphere. Both ends of the spectrum permeate inaccurate stereotypes and reject the idea of healthy debate without verbal aggression. We're living in a post-factual, overly-emotional era. We're forgetting words break and build.
I decided to launch Editorial Trance in the wake of the 2016 election season, coupled with the Me Too and Times Up movements. Marginalized communities continue to be demonized out of bigoted reasons. I want to change that! My bylines are on: Uforia Music (Univision), Latino Rebels, Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, Allegro magazine, Enclave Magazine, Fizzy Magazine.See? strong female voices are crucial now, more than ever. We're still bubbled into categories and stereotypes and it's time to break those barriers and erase those borders. I've had the chance to defend my view points and express myself freely. Many are afraid; others are simply not given the chance. Now is my chance to extend that opportunity to my sisters and other allies.
Editorial Trance is a bilingual (English and Spanish) publisher & media platform celebrating & empowering women, people of color and marginalized voices through literary works of all genres, podcasts, live music and readings, and online events. The purpose is to publish works and showcase multi-media pieces about female empowerment, immigrant arts, social justice, and borderless love. There’s a great need to give a platform to marginalized voices celebrating different communities and publish powerful stories we barely get the chance to read or listen to. On a daily basis we'll publish compelling contributor's stories/ blogs about resistance, immigration, female empowerment and many other women issues. We also release multi-media pieces like videos and podcasts aimed to multi-cultural audiences. The first title will be about Puerto Rico. We need to celebrate the beautiful island that's suffering right now. Proceeds of the anthology will help writers in Puerto Rico.
I'm the editor of all books while my Enclave Magazine partner Hector Luis Alamo will continue to be the Editor-in-Chief of contributor's pieces. The funding will help us secure a catalog for 2018-19 and pay contributors a stipend for their submissions. It will also help us with administrative overhead, marketing and promotion of all pieces and titles. On a daily basis we'll publish compelling contributor's stories/ blogs about resistance, immigration, female empowerment and many other women issues. Our plan is to align with like-minded partners and institutions that need to raise funds to move ahead. By each of those non-profits sponsoring a book, a column or an event, up to 10% of profits from their sponsored project will go back to their piggy bank. Buy a book and give back!
The Project FAQs
The main risk is, of course, not having enough quality submissions to publish. That's why on my rewards, I'm making sure we have enough content to keep ourselves busy! This also means you'll help us spread the word out so more people query and submit their work. We believe in preserving everyone's voice, so the other risk is having submissions that wouldn't align with our mission. It is important to stay true to the mission of empowerment and celebration of women and allies; of borderless love for all. That's what the world needs now!
