Eco Lab for EcoSapien
Help us build an environmental testing lab at EcoSapien!
Project Description
- EcoSapien's goal is to integrate ecology and human activities. Using cutting edge equipment and novel interdisciplinary analysis, we consult and educate on how to preserve ecological function while creating efficient land management plans. Negative environmental effects of infrastructure, agriculture, and other human activities are compounding. Federal and State policies are bearing down on ag chemical usage, water use and consumption, and soil practices. As a leader in agricultural production, California is the perfect testing ground for our new form of consulting. We work with small and large property owners, to consult and educate on best environmental practices, while maintaining efficient and effective land management strategies. From commercial farms to family homesteads, polluted ecosystems to post-wildfire devastation, our team will help our clients restore their land and, in turn, restore productivity and quality of life.
- We also offer technical training programs and classes to help our local community. A percent of our for-profit work funds non-profit partnerships around the world.
- EcoSapien is already operating in Butte County CA. We have a local client base consisting primarily of small land owners. We are currently partnered with several non-profits, locally and internationally, to bring our skills and passion to those in need.
- We are hoping to transition to more environmental testing services, as an obvious need has arisen to create these resources in our community. To continue to grow and serve our clients, we are in need of equipment for our laboratory. We have a detailed list of equipment that would help us provide new, in-depth, high quality sample analysis to our new partners and potential clients. This facility would be open to other local organizations (in Butte County) for sample processing (non-profits and for-profits alike).
- The EcoSapien team currently consists of Ms. Janel Luke and Ms. Megan Luke. Janel Luke is the owner and lead consultant/lab tech. Janel currently attends Butte-Glen Community College, working toward a B.S. in Microbiology and Biochem, and spent a year studying medical microbiology in Accra, Ghana. She has 6 years of experience with in soil microbiology and working with non-profits. Her sister Megan is an agroecologist with a Master's from Chico State. She has years of experience in crop management and agricultural research.

For your donation, you will receive a soil biology survey. One of our experienced soil microbiologists will retrieve a sample from your property in a location of your choice, and will return to you a detailed survey of soil microorganisms (diversity and biomass ratios), with a brief interpretation of the results.
This reward starts with a soil biology test, performed by one of our experienced lab techs. From there, you will receive a 30 min consultation on-site to review your results, and where to go from there! This is ideal for anyone looking to restore/develop their property, or troubleshoot issues
