Disrupting in-home child care work in NYC

Dream Nanny & Superstar Sitters was born after I was hearing endless stories of families unhappy with their in-home child care and Nannies being treated poorly by their employers. I'd been in this industry for over two decades and had heard enough. I created Dream Nanny in early 2020 to build a more fair, equitable agency that works to professionalize the industry and fight for fairer work conditions and better professional boundaries. 

And then COVID happened. 

Now, more than ever the need to healthy, professional domestic work is crucial. We know that most domestic workers are women and many are women of color. We also know that COVID-19 has disproportionally impacted the careers of mothers more than their male partners. 
Domestic workers need to get back to work and parents need support and options to continue with their work. And most of all, kids need happy, committed adults around them who will be there for the long haul.

Right now I have more demand than I can keep up with while working full-time in progressive politics. I've found an amazing Childcare Placement Specialist who talks about nannies "supporting" the parents..not "working for" them which is such a wonderful reframing. Her approach to this work aligns with my own that children thrive when the adults in their lives are happy.  I'm faced with the old, chicken or the egg scenario in that I can't grow without a help and I can't pay help until I've grown. All of the capital I'm raising would go to paying this first hire.
