I am a highly skilled Residential Designer . The journey has been difficult with 1 giant step forward and 10 steps backward but always taking that giant step forward again. 2020 ( my birthdate 220) was and still remains my year-Im being optimistic. The dream jobs ( yes ! they were finally coming to fruition!) of 3 restaurant re- designs and that the “knickerbocker” bachelor pad are “pending”, “on hold” thanx to a little redheaded bug name C-19 and a bull and bear economic contraction … However, I remain bright as best I can! That is the problem- how do I regain client confidence in an uncertain world?
- My most REWARDING ROLE and best “time out” of my life was as a Care-giver to my late Mom (for 3 yrs). She was my Mentor and I miss her guidance when it comes to design editing. As an EDUCATOR, I now MENTOR Interior Design students-always striving for standards of excellence and creative thought. I want to continue to give back and hire a paid Intern ( his/her time has value too!) so that he/she can learn, train, and develop in a practical environment. The GRANT FUNDING would also help in adding necessary teams to my business. You are only as good as your team and collective creative thoughts, ideas, inspirations add more value as the “we” than that of the “I” factor.
- The CHALLENGEs I face is that Interior Design is a rapidly changing business model thanks to pinterest, Houzz, Wayfair , Havenly, Homepolish (rip) and other online presences… clients become their own Designers not necessarily wanting to hire a firm. My direct competition are Design Build firms as they market themselves as one stop shopping- falsities in many ways as they hire outside contractors such as myself. I need to harness the power of social media/ SEO and set myself up with the proper tools and support factors: a new website, Instagram following, Facebook marketing, Google top search . This is a small portion of the grant funding will go- marketing 101. Third- Revit/Autocadd/ and Adobe are costly programs to buy or subscribe to. These are much needed to create architectural plans and 3D models. The funding will help me purchase the subscriptions.

I’ve got the certification ( NCIDQ) and education, the talent, the expertise , the experience…. I am fortunate as the only Interior Designer amongst an array of International Architects to be sponsored by the natural stone industry: I obtain ceu’s through firsthand knowledge of innovative products, factory and showroom visits in EUROPE and the US. StoneWorld magazine called me an innovator : Yes- I am THAT person who created the natural stone waterfall you see prevalent in kitchen design today. OK- enough about the I factor.
Lets get back to “we” and what the funding will do: 1. hire and mentor Intern 6 months at a respectable wage 2. harness social media/Seo/hire the Professional ; 3. purchase those costly CADD programs ( @$3000 +)!
