The Team

Meet Tara Darnley: 

When Founders, Carl and Tara Darnley, realized their daughter was teething early, they set out to find a teether she could use that didn’t require her to hold it.  She was only two months old and didn’t have the dexterity to hold a traditional teether, so they wanted something she could put in her mouth that was a cleaner alternative to her hands but still offered relief.  After a number of failed retail searches for something that met that need, they decided to make it themselves. This birthed the idea for their first patented invention, the Yummy Mitt® teething mitten.

Meet Sherrill Mosee:

Sherrill Mosee, inventor and designer of MinkeeBlue set out to solve a problem she calls, the ‘overload bag syndrome’. Like many women, Sherrill carried two or three bags to work—a purse, laptop bag, lunch bag, and sometimes shoes in her purse. She wanted to create an organizational fashion bag for busy women whose role changed throughout the day—from an executive to fitness enthusiast, daily commuter, and mom.

MinkeeBlue is her patented solution! Sherrill is the former president of Family Care Solutions, a nonprofit organization she founded to promote higher education among low-income women with children. The organization awarded over $3 million in childcare scholarships to help women with children stay in school and earn a college degree. Mosee put her degree in engineering to work and came up with the patented MinkeeBlue design. She describes MinkeeBlue as a reflection of “who we are” and “what we do” in our daily lives –  “Your day is in the Bag”, says Mosee.

Why collaborate?

We met in 2015 at a Baby Show both vending and decided to keep in touch. We did! We became great friends over the years through the connection of our entrepreneurial journey. I had purchased Sherrill's diaper bag back then and absolutely loved it and wore it everywhere. So when she told me she was discontinuing her diaper bag selection I wasn't too happy about it. However, I understood that it was better for the pivot of her company to do so. When I had my second child, it became daunting and a bit difficult to carry the traditional diaper bags for two children. Sherrill's bag designs are all about organization and convenience. So I asked her to design us a diaper bag that would be practical for me to use with my two little ones, would be functional to go to a business meeting/ work or an overnight trip. She executed my request exceeding my imagination. 

Beyond creating this amazing backpack, the power of showing that two women can indeed work together without competing was important for us to show and inspire other women to do the same. We can get much further when we collaborate and this project is proof of that. 

We've gain Press attention even before launching in Black Enterprise and Major retailers are already interested in carrying our backpack! But even more important, is the support and outpour of love we've received from other women has been nothing short of incredible. With your help, we are excited to bring this product to market and change the way women view and feel about their diaper bags.

What will the funding be used for?

We've already invested a portion of our savings to get the production started and to test the material of the bag to ensure safety and to get the bags to you fast. Your support in purchasing a backpack will allow us to pay for the complete production and manufacturing of the bags, export the bags and ship them to your door! Your help will allow us to keep the cost of the bag low, yet providing you with an excellent quality bag.

RISKS AND CHALLENGES

The biggest challenge at the moment is unforeseen events, as we currently work with an overseas manufacturer. We plan to bring production to the States as volume continues to grow. In the meantime, I’ll work closely with the manufacturer during production to ensure an on-time delivery.
