Common Good Cooperatives: Help Us Grow!

In a time where challenges to mental and physical health touch the lives of so many, The Common Good Cooperative’s mission is to provide safe space centering and whole body wellness as a resource to the women in our community who are disproportionately impacted by recent societal and environmental violence.

As featured in the documentary, A Reckoning in Boston, The Common Good Cooperative was founded in Boston, MA by African American women who sought cooperative models and solidarity agreements to self-actualize community stabilization. Women nationally and globally face a disproportionate burden of health disparities, experiences with structural violence, and few opportunities for economic mobility--the mothers and women who founded Common Good Cooperatives sought to disrupt this cycle in Boston by providing community spaces for social and economic growth and healing. 

With little resources, but a lot of determination, Common Good Cooperatives founded its initial project of Boston's first Urban Farm Co-op for Women of Color in 2019. Serving families, older persons, and individuals across the Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan neighborhoods of Boston nutrient dense, organic, fresh food--we provide Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares by donation and for purchase depending on level of need. Our farm offers a space for healing, learning, and rest for our community. We started with an empty lot and are continuing to grow! 

Common Good Cooperatives is seeking seed funding to support us in organizational growth and capacity building for our administrative and operating costs. Our organization continues to grow exponentially along with need (which has increased due to COVID-19) and we are asking for financial support in capacity building for our community. As an organization founded by, operated by, and that primarily serves women, we recognize the importance of seed funding and setting a path for sustainability as we continue to reach the goals of our mission for women and their families. This funding will contribute to greater environmental sustainability and reciprocity in our organization, while moving our Farm on a path towards becoming a carbon neutral, zero-waste urban farm co-op by 2022.

Our team consists of our organization founder, Kafi Dixon, several academic and community organizer consultants (including professors, students, and alumni from Tufts University and Harvard University), as well as our amazing community members that offer administrative and operational support in the urban farm cooperative space. 

Common Good Cooperative is also a Massachusetts B Corporation completing the process of B-Corp Certification in long-term accountability to our mission, members, stakeholders, donors, and community.
