• Do you know where Bushwick Grind is relocating to?
  • Brooklyn for sure!  We are in negotiations for 3 different locations.  Access for the garden is our critical concern and will largely base our decision.  
• Is it really practical to have a bountiful garden in Brooklyn?
  • Urban agriculture in the five boroughs provides countless benefits to New Yorkers, expanding access to healthy food, building strong community networks, improving environmental conditions in our neighborhoods, offering educational opportunities, and providing jobs.
  • Did you know, there are more than 550 community gardens are located across all five boroughs in the city, mostly maintained by volunteers and local residents.  
  • NYC Parks GreenThumb provides programming and material support to community gardens in New York City. More than 550 GreenThumb community gardens are located across all five boroughs in the city.
  • GrowNYC has built more than 125 new gardens in BK, including GreenThumb community gardens; gardens in public housing developments, daycares, and senior centers.  
  • In short, yes! Absolutely and it is already being done.  
• Are Bushwick Grind Owners Farmers?
  • I wish I had sat at my grand-parents feet, in Prineville South Carolina, and learned all their generational hacks, skills, and knowledge in food production.  They grew,  and my siblings and I "picked" everything it seems but rice but including cotton.  It is in our "blood" as they say.  
  • We are also honing our skills, knowledge, and techniques via formal methods as students at LSU College of Agriculture.
  • We are no stranger to the local community gardens in NYC, especially those Brooklyn - Much gratitude for the generosity of time spent - especially this kind soul at https://www.instagram.com/bkgreengardner/ 
• Will Bushwick Grind Grow all the food prepared and sold?
  • That would be awesome, but no. We will still need to utilize 3rd part distribution but will continue to be very deliberate with who we partner with for items we cannot or will not grow - or when they are not in season.
  • We have always made great effort, where the cost would not be compromised, to partner with high integrity suppliers. For example, all the grains - steel-cut oats, quinoa, farro, etc. were procured directly from an upstate NY farmer.
  • Our famous watermelon lemonade included hibiscus, hand-delivered monthly from an upstate NY farmer.
  • All the jams used in our good grilled cheese and specialty toast, also handcrafted, hand-delivered, and fully transparent in preparation and ingredients.  
• Will Bushwick Grind Grow also serve as a Farmers Market?
  • That is the goal. There is a lot of logistics to finalize but reduction of waste, harvesting rain water as permitted, and community sharing and education is certainly on the agenda.
