Build Job Swiper!
Let's build a world in which a job seeker has control of which company can see their interest, and who is interested in them.
Project Description
My name is Adria McMichael, and I am building a job search app that gives control to users by fine tuning their search results, learning who they are, and allows for you to block words, titles, and even people.
I created Job Swiper after a conversation with a co-worker. We were both miserable, and frankly scared about our futures at our job. Because of this, we were both actively searching for work. My friend said to me that she had been ghosted by a company, and I said- exactly- this is just like dating, but the technology doesn't support us as seekers. Right then, I excused myself and worked on the idea of a job search that gives you the control of a dating app, like Tinder. Job Swiper was born.
Job Swiper seeks to give control back to the Job Seeker, and even to the recruiter. We want people to make real connections while looking for their next professional relationship.
We want people to easily navigate their job search, and have control over it too. Is there a company that is ignoring you skill set and hounding you? You can block them. Are you a data analyst, but keep seeing jobs for hotel sales analyst positions? You can block those results from showing!
Job searching has become like modern day dating, but our technology has not kept up with the obvious congruence. We seek to make the search easier, quicker, and more inline with a growing workforce.
The wireframe is there, the app is all but built. The funding will go 100% to building the app, and the beginning marketing stages, along with tech support for the first 90 days.
You know someone right now who is searching for a job, and they are frustrated because they are wasting hours sifting through search results, through recruiters, through companies that have absolutely nothing to do with their expertise. You know a hiring manager, a recruiter, or a company owner who is tired of seeing the same type of candidate, even the same candidate come through for a job they are not qualified for. Job Swiper changes all of this, by allowing everyone to fully control their search and their results.
This is a globally accessible app for anyone looking for a job, both seriously and casually. This market is global and enormous.

- Like Tinder, but for jobs?
- Yes! You swipe left when you're not impressed, and can select an enticing profile to get more details if you are sort of impressed. If someone or some-job won't leave you alone, you can send them to the ethers from whence they came.
- Where did you get this crazy idea?
- I was talking to a coworker at a job that we were both miserable in. The company recently laid off a bunch of really great people, the CEO and leadership were out of touch, and we were left wondering if we were going to be employed the next day. We were both searching for new positions and she said she got ghosted by a company. Right then I said, it's exactly like dating only you can't block that company so they never appear in your results again... but you should be allowed to do that! I realized then that I needed to help people with an ideal job search app.

Larisa holds a Bachelor's in English from the University of Chicago (1989) and an Executive MBA from the University of Washington (2004). She is also a licensed massage therapist, having graduated in 2002 from Brenneke School of Massage in Seattle (now Cortiva).
