Baking has always been a part of my legacy. In fact it's a part of the African American legacy. Passed down from generation to generation From our Ancestors as they prepared wonderful meals and desserts as forced enslaved African Americans. Sometimes being on call 24 hours a day, they would put heart and soul into every prepared meal and every decadent dessert from scratch. These meals and chefs helped create and shape our nation's cultural heritage.
GreeneStreet sweets was birthed with the aspiration of creating made from scratch desserts and Ice cream including non dairy. Each dessert is carefully prepared with the understanding of how our sense of smell is closely linked with memory, probably more than any of our other senses. Scents are the only sensations that travel a direct path to the emotional and memory centers of the brain. Which is why you can smell Fresh baked Apple Pie and immediately think of the exact time and place you ate it and how you felt. Sometimes a dessert can make you think of someone special like Grandma. Scents are really special because they can bring back memories that might otherwise never be recalled. Our goal is to not only help you celebrate a special moment but connect you with a special memory through taste.
The goal of our company is to not only touch others through taste but assist food banks such as the gourmet angel with preparing free meals for families struggling financially. This is what we have been currently doing during the pandemic. We have assisted over 225 families weekly that have been impacted financially by Covid -19 through loss employment, pay cuts etc. Especially single parent households. As a mom I understand this need firsthand . Our goal is to continue to prepare a portion of our desserts weekly to be given to these families But we need expansion. The funding would be spent on a physical store front and equipment as well as more supplies. We are currently a home bakery and need more space and have been self funded thus far. As our company grows, we would like to donate proceeds to a local women’s shelter in the DMV region that helps women restart their life and build a stable future and hopefully we can provide them employment. Our women are the staples in our communities and we need them. Our goal is to secure a store front to be able to continue to distribute desserts and expand our services with the hopes of serving in multiple cities and states.
Baking since age 9, desserts have always been a favorite to make. I have a family history of bakers that curated the most delightful desserts from scratch including homemade ice cream. My goal is pay homage to those bakers before me by spreading love and joy through every first bite. Every Dessert is connected to a memory and every dessert creates a memory and immediately brings a smile to your face.
I appreciate any help with funding and understand this plight is not one I can do alone.
