The Birth of Terra Lux

Upful Love! I'm Kelly Moon, Artist and Crafter rooted in the beautiful Caribbean island of Antigua (& Barbuda). The birth of Terra Lux started with my love for sustainable fashion and also me wanting my very own calabash bag. I had access to Calabash, so I tried and tried until I finally figured out how to make my very own Calabash bag— Calabash bag making is an ancient skill that isn’t widely practiced anymore so I'm very grateful I figured out my way of doing it. I documented the process via social media and immediately people were requesting and wanted to purchase their very own Calabash bag from me.

The Calabash 

Calabash is a fruit belonging to the gourd family. It's known for having big, round fruits with a smooth, hard outer shell but they do come in many different unique shapes, colors and sizes. When dry, the Calabash’s shell becomes like a mix of wood and coconut shell and is used to make a wide variety of things like bowls, cups, musical instruments, household decor and bags.

Mission

Terra Lux by Kelly Moon strives to reshape and transform the traditional understanding of luxury by prioritizing, leading and leaning towards sustainable and nature-based alternatives, starting with our eco-luxurious calabash bags.

Luxury and fast fashion industries often rely on materials with a significant ecological footprint. We're tackling this issue by creating a line of exquisite calabash bags, offering a natural, sustainable alternatives.

In addition, We are passionate about calabash education, offering educational experiences for individuals to learn more about this underappreciated natural resource and it's many uses. By shedding light on its ecological benefits and cultural heritage, we aim to cultivate a deeper understanding of not only the Calabash fruit but also sustainability, encouraging conscious consumer choices.
